The very sad story of Lucy

Given the scores of kids dying of famine in sub saharan africa, how the hell did an abused colombian dog make it to ny for adoption?

It always bothers me when humans treat animals like that. Kill them for food? Fine. Mistreat them, beat them, treat them like shit...you deserve the same treatment.

Since this is a "pit bull" (by any other name) I can't get TOO upset. I don't like the breeds that make up the "pit bull" category of dogs...but that still ain't right. I hope to hell that whoever did that to the dog dies a slow, painful death.

People care more about abused dogs than they do about African children. <shrug>

I have talked to the people from Strays From the Heart. I used to foster pits for a while and helped save a few of them. I would adopt or foster her but I have too many responsibilities right now of my own. Someone will rescue her. I can't do it.

Fact. A very ironic fact.

Still shocking that the dog got over here. I mean as much as it hurts to see animals beat like that... it is a dog, who would spend the money to get it over to NY. I'm sure there are families in Columbia that would be saddened by this story and want to take care of it.

People that post this kind of drivel every time there is a thread about people going out of their way to help an abused dog or cat might have a valid point except for the fact that there are literally 1000's of charitable organizations established for the sole purpose of helping children be they starving in Africa or suffering congenital diseases in the US. One has nothing to do with the other. If you are that concerned about starving children in Africa there are a lot of ways you personally can do something to help them either through charitable organizations or joining an organization and going to Africa personally to alleviate suffering and starvation.

No offence, I couldn't care less about sub Saharan kids, I mean I do care, but at the same time I don't. People as sentient human beings all have the ability to dig themselves out of shit. At some point, every 'premier' civilization has had to do it, with VERY few exceptions.

A dog? An animal? They are helpless.

My grandparents, bless their souls, have committed several million dollars in their will to go to various animal shelters. When I asked my Grandfather why he did that, rather than give it to charity, he responded to me with a very simple response. When he was growing up he could not scratch a nickel together, and he had to dig himself out of the shit, and it taught him things that he never would have been successful without.

Comparing humans to animals are very different kettles of fish.

I don't think anyone has ever been able to scratch "a" nickel together, have they?

I totally agree. People can rise up and make their lives better. A captive animal has no chance against us. It's up to us to be the caretakers of this world. We seem to forget that.

while we're somewhat on that topic, why do poverty-stricken people in 3rd world countries continue to have kids? Is it because of lack of birth control or what? Doesn't it pain them to have their kids suffer the same way they do? Have some restraint for god's sake.

It is actually gods fault. I'd gladly donate birth control and condoms to africa. Unfortunately, God has spoken and told them that using these tools is a sin.

Just one more item in the evidence that the catholic church does more to hurt the people of this planet then it does to help it.

Lack of BC, and the fact that more kids are needed in agricultural societies to tend to the field and whatnot.
