There are certainly areas that Apple could improve on with iOS, which makes me wonder... what are their long term goals for the OS?

Oh, and Safari may not support sending downloaded files to Dropbox, but Atomic Web Browser certainly does. It actually supports a hell of a lot more than Safari, which is why I gave up the Nitro JavaScript engine just for its extra features.

I still don't understand why they have that terrible sharing in iOS. Something like Android and Win8 would be worlds better. And yes this is a real problem before anyone says otherwise. I use Whatsapp to talk with friends using iPhones and BBs and if I want to show them a picture, file, audio clip, video clip is pisss easy on android.

Android has had that since inception?

And Windows 8 takes it one step further by not even forcing you out of the app.

Yeah I'm hoping they manage to JB this thing, with some of the tweaks that JBing allows for combined with good hardware you would end up with a pretty awesome phone.

I can't imagine putting down good money on one before said jailbreak is available. I'll take a jailbroken 4S over a vanilla 5 any day of the week.

I have a 4S and never JB it. Now that I think about it that really makes me sad as it shows just how little I care to tinker anymore. I'm going to need to look into that this weekend.

pretty much the reason i am holding out this time.

i got burned by upgrading to the 4S on day 1 (switched back to sprint from at&t, couldnt stand at&t anymore), because the jailbreak for the 4S didnt come out for another few months. this time, im going to wait patiently for the ios6 jailbreak.

I got tired of tinkering a long time ago. I just need stuff that I can use without fuss. Switched to WP7 over a year ago was perfectly happy. Now that I wanna do more stuff of course, I'm in trouble. Gonna need to either hold out for WP8, or jump back on Android. With 4.0 a lot of routine stuff becomes much easier, like managing apps and files.

or introduce a second front-facing camera so that it doesn't matter which orientation the device is held, you can always do FaceTime.
.

why would you need 2 cameras for different orientations? it doesn't auto-rotate the image from the front camera?

The iphone 4 did not auto rotate the rear camera. Remember all those fucking portrait videos people stuck on Youtube?

Hopefully that issue has been corrected with the 5, and if so, I would assume the front camera as well.

It does. But some people prefer to Facetime with their headphone connected to the top/bottom of the phone.

Also when you rotate the phone to landscape, your eyes aren't looking at the camera anymore but at the screen. Try that in a meeting and you'll get the "look at me in the eyes while you are talking!" from your boss.

i'd imagine the same effect in any orientation right? any boss that doesn't understand that video chat isn't 100% the same as in-person is a retard.

i guess that doesn't stop them from being bosses though :D

That was just choice. You can shoot landscape pics with the iphone 4 rear camera, I had one. It's the FRONT camera that might not do that.

I'd love to care less about tinkering and I think ICS and JB really did that well. I still prefer the extra features of CyanogenMod, so I will keep doing that but in terms of not having to tinker I can see why people hated Android phones ruined with manufacturer skins pre 4.0.

not even top shelf. Theres faster CPU's and GPU's elsewhere, but since iOS is a little more efficient you dont notice it. Theres better displays but not for sale yet. And they will never allow an SD card so its a moot point.

And its not really DATED software as such. Its the newest version. The beef is it added minimal features and one glaring mess up.
