Some fun facts about the game a month later:

Interesting, thanks for sharing. I didn't play it for very long either. I wonder where the sniper rifle is?
Fun game to explore and enjoy the beauty but not a very large map and could've used some more wildlife. My favorite part was the creepy dead guy with the lantern in the mines...freaked me out when I first encountered him.

But I do hope they make another one.

It was in the patch notes, it was so out of place for this game I thought it was a joke:
- Changed the sniper rifle spawn point to the center of the lake
- Sniper rifle no scope damage tweaked from 3 to over 9000
- Nerfed the sniper rifle

Someone even made this joke:

No, someone PS'ed the Stalker UI. The Sniper rifle is there but it's a joke really, completely out of context for this game.

No surprise it's coming to consoles given its is 16:9. You have to use 3rd party programs for different aspect ratios.

Sales seem a little disappointing to me? Maybe because its short or current price? I do intend on buying it later in the year whether it drops a couple percent or not

I bought it yesterday and played about 45 minutes worth. It was beautiful, I'll give it that. But really, if I wanted to run around in the woods, I'll head up to my hunting lease.

Seems more like a tech demo than a game. Just couldn't get into it...

The point is to solve a mystery by finding clues, not run around in the woods. Although you could always go hunting and create your own murder mystery for someone else.

If nothing else, games like this or Heavy Rain are certainly better than the old point and click pixel hunt games. I hope to see more such as these.

For a pricier than average indie title, it's doing alright now though sales over 6 months paint a better picture. The issue is that not all indie titles get the same coverage in the media. Stanley Parable is a PC exclusive, sold over a million but it was always cheaper, got more attention because of it's humorous take on games, had a demo and I think it snagged a few awards too. 404 of Ethan Carter may have gotten same or better sale numbers if it had better luck with the media.

Whilst running around in the woods. Look, I get the point of the game. Just don't see, other than the beautiful graphics, what the big deal is...

The big deal would be for those that knew before purchasing it, what kind of game it was. You apparently must have thought it was something else since obviously it's not your type of game. Which you should have known that beforehand of course.

$11.99 right now on Steam for next 28 hours. I might finally pull the trigger.

i'm sure it will be even cheaper next year, why not wait a little longer to save more money, its just a single player game anyways

I was game-less with nothing to play at the moment ;)

I got it. Too bad my CPU sucks (haswell pentium) so I'm having to play on minimum graphic preset.

update; actually running okay on high graphic preset with my cpu now

I was interested in the game, but haven't heard anyone say it is amazing. An indie title has to come up with something extremely novel to make me want to overlook all the negatives of a small team game. I'll probably pick it up when it is under $10.

I'm 60-90 min in. I really have no idea what I'm supposed to be doing. Finished some first puzzle (if it even qualifies) as finding all the traps, I then came upon a
body on the tracks. Then I walked into a town, found a house with portals, checked all its rooms, went to a cathedral, found a couple o notes in front of a tent in the woods, walked some more.
I'm really not getting it. The graphics are extraordinary, for sure, but I almost wish the game had a hover-bike. All I'm doing is walking around and occasionally there is narrative (?). One of the reviews mentioned on wiki calls it linear. I find it absolutely the opposite. I have no idea if I've missed anything or what.

That's the thing: The more you go slowly and take your time in Ethan Carter, the more narrative that will be revealed to you. However, the game doesn't hold your hand, and it does NOT tell you if you've missed anything.

I got about halfway through the game, then I decided to restart and play it again but more thoroughly. Turns out I had missed some pretty big stuff.

You're probably gonna think I'm joking when I tell you that it looks like you missed the part where
you chase a man in an astronaut suit around the woods, and then you fly up into outer space.
