If you have one already, now is probbly the time to sell. Like you said Macs have a high resell value for a long time. But when the conversion happens, people will be less and less willing to buy the older hardware. When you really think about it, the people that are usually buying used probably know a little bit more what they are doing, they will know about the conversion and will pay less.
That said, isant like iBook one of the last things to be converted over? I cant remember, but the conversion is not going to be instant, I'm not sure how that will make a difference. I'm guessing once it starts old hardware prices will gradually go down. Its not going to be a steep drop.
On the other side, hopefully Apple will have lower prices on the new x86 Macs when they come out. A big part of the switch has to do with $$ and getting the volume discounts from Intel. With Apple already having something like a 30% profit margin on (some) Mac models hopefully they will give the consumers some price breaks. Like a lot of people are saying, apple needs sub $600 portables and sub $400 desktops, will they give us that? I would say not in the near future, will they get closer to those prices? In my opinion, they will in order to remain competitive.
For those who are here to bash Macs, seriously whats your problem? Did they hurt your family in some way? Is it case they cost a little more? Or is it just that you have no idea what your taking about so your only response is to "bash what I don't understand"?
Seriously guys? At this point I don't even have a Mac. I really wish my Sister did, as well as my parents. I swear, my sis has no spyware, no viruses, and somehow shes managed to muck every thing up.
It's time for some of you to grow up, stop discriminating against what you dont understand, and quit being ignorant.
