The value of MACS after january

Do you think the new x86 macs will drop resell value of older models who have been able to stay incredibly close to regular price.

Or better yet, if you had a g4 ibook. would you sell it now or after the mac convention.

Nope.

Look at the IPods. Apple, with its fanbase of graphic designers/"creative" types, does one thing right - marketing.

what does it matter? its a $hitty computer either way:thumbsup:
 Thanks for the constructive comment, jackass.

I think it will definitely affect the price, but I don't think PPC-based Apples will precipitously drop in price.

apples are ridiculously priced to begin with. even a steep price drop won't make them truly competitive, although it'll excite more mac fanbois.

It matters casue MACS = Mobile Air Conditioning Society. Ok maybe I just googled that 🙂 It just looks(and is) wrong when its used like that.

A) No one asked for your opinion on Apple's pricing
B) I don't see how that comment was in any way helpful
C) Coming into a thread strictly to thread-crap on Christmas day is a great way to show what a true jackass you are.

If you have one already, now is probbly the time to sell. Like you said Macs have a high resell value for a long time. But when the conversion happens, people will be less and less willing to buy the older hardware. When you really think about it, the people that are usually buying used probably know a little bit more what they are doing, they will know about the conversion and will pay less.

That said, isant like iBook one of the last things to be converted over? I cant remember, but the conversion is not going to be instant, I'm not sure how that will make a difference. I'm guessing once it starts old hardware prices will gradually go down. Its not going to be a steep drop.

On the other side, hopefully Apple will have lower prices on the new x86 Macs when they come out. A big part of the switch has to do with $$ and getting the volume discounts from Intel. With Apple already having something like a 30% profit margin on (some) Mac models hopefully they will give the consumers some price breaks. Like a lot of people are saying, apple needs sub $600 portables and sub $400 desktops, will they give us that? I would say not in the near future, will they get closer to those prices? In my opinion, they will in order to remain competitive.

For those who are here to bash Macs, seriously whats your problem? Did they hurt your family in some way? Is it case they cost a little more? Or is it just that you have no idea what your taking about so your only response is to "bash what I don't understand"?

Seriously guys? At this point I don't even have a Mac. I really wish my Sister did, as well as my parents. I swear, my sis has no spyware, no viruses, and somehow shes managed to muck every thing up.

It's time for some of you to grow up, stop discriminating against what you dont understand, and quit being ignorant.

if apple doesnt do the transtion to x86 right this might be the last generation of 'good' macs, could even increase the value.

It does? The iBook is a great machine.

It should be at least 3+ years before the switch will be hitting him. I may be wrong on this one, but who keeps a laptop that long nowadays? Even if they do, the machine is not just going to stop working, slowly new software will begin to fade, and support from Apple will erode for the OS.

Rumor has it that the iBooks may be getting the first bump, though most sites have stuck to the "intel laptop" moniker rather than specifying. I agree, that would suck to get an iBook this year for Christmas, as MacWorld Expo in January is supposed to be the launching point (with Yonah, hopefully). I sold my PowerBook this month, though I'm not really looking to get back into the Mac world, because I have no need to. If you're going to upgrade, I would sell soon, but as was previously posted beware of those would buy, because chances are those people would already know.

If you want a Mac, just go ahead and get one now. Apple isn't going to abandon their PPC consumer-base. We'll have fat binaries.

Everyone that's bashing Macs is just showing their ignorance. This thread was created to discuss PPC and Intel Macs. The fact that you came in here just to threadcrap on Christmas is sad.

Meh, christmas is a non-issue. One day doesn't change a person's opinions. I personally have no beef with Macs. I have a beef with the fact that people get all excited about how much better then are then pcs. They might "look" better, but that has no effect on performance.

I like the Macintosh because it lets me do what I need to do, and it lets me do it well. For others, the Windows platform is good for this. Both platforms have their applications.
