Over 3 years ago I was walking down the street with 2 friends. The next thing I know there is a man holding a gun to the back of my head. He gets my wallet and my friends purse/wallet. Later that evening they catch him attempting to carjack someone else. The dumba$$ still has our wallets. So the next day I get a phone call from some policeman asking for us to come down to the station and try to identify this pos. We go to the station and positively id this man. The next step is court so after numerous hearings he is granted bond. No big deal the trial is set. What happens next? He skips out on his bond. I find out later he is already out on bond for aggravated assault against a police officer. The years pass by and I get a phone call from the state's attorney's office. It turns out they caught the pos again and we are going to trial may 1. Wooooohoooooo oops The trial has been postponed until june 1. No big deal I can wait another month. Well I just got off the phone with the state's attorney and find out that he has been granted bond yet once again. How many chances does this Piece of sh!t get?

It is not going to get any better until we raise our voices in anger against it instead of just whining. Yes I am guilty of whining myself.

We need more abortions not a better judicial system :p

If you don't get it then you need to read the study that suggested that violent crime has decreased because of abortions being legalized.

We need to start taking people out to the center of town and hanging them for everyone to see. As far as whining goes I'm on the phone with the Atlanta journal constituion right now. I'm going to make a little noise.

Mikal,

It is not about strikes anymore. I think it is the fact that we just have too many criminals in jail. Judges want to find any reason why the person could stay out of jail til their trial. It just sucks in everyway....

We have to many people in jail for bs like posession of marijuana while career criminals are walking the streets. I'm not arguing for the legalization of marijuana. I just think we need to look at the big picture.

As one who regularly works with the judicial system ( my job requires me to testify as an expert witness) i know how frustrating the whole affair is. the problem is that the system is stretched to its breaking point with too many cases to many prisoners with to little space and time to fit them all in. Most of my cases that i receive a supoena for are cancelled way before the actual day of the trial, most lawyers and judges plea out to move the system along.

I think we need to rethink our priorities a little bit. The VIOLENT criminals need to be locked up. The people who's crime it is to hurt mostly themselves need to be in treatment programs, not in jail.

If you ever skip bail once you should, by default, never be allowed it ever again. This is frigging ridiculous.

slipperyslope,

Well maybe, just maybe, if they would stop throwing these people in jail for having a quarter oz of pot, or worse yet some stems and seeds in an ashtray, the jails wouldn't be so damn overcrowed! Screw bringing back hanging, start crucifying people. If murderers or future murderers knew that they would suffer for their crimes, maybe they would think twice. Then again they probably wouldn't. Criminals as a whole aren't the sharpest tool in the shed. We need to start worring more about the victims and less about protecting the right of these pieces of garbage. It is really sad that with this mandatory sentencing crap for drugs that a person gets more time in jail then a murderer, rapist or Chester the molester!

This is exactly why we should be allowed to have firearms, if he would have done anything like that to me he would have never had to worry about jumping bond. I would have taken care of him for the state right there for the mere cost of 1 bullet, maybe 2 if I had been drinking :)

I thinking shooting someone who has a gun to your head is probably a clear cut case of self defense.

layne: ummm I doubt that. There is nothing they could charge me for, but even if they had tried the damn NRA themselves would probably provide the lawyer for me. :)

Don't get me wrong i beleive self defense is a legit excuse; however, his family would probably sue you. A perfect example of the frivolous lawsuits flying around today. I have been to court over a burgler who sued a family for shooting him while steeling from there house, crazy!

layne: hehe, so bring it, I have the mindset to actively oppose such things, and enough savings to make fools of most ambulance chaser lawyers that these ghetto families can obtain.

I used to have all kinds of wonderful ideas about what I would do or say if someone ever pulled a gun on me. Not one of those ideas came to mind when I was looking down the barrel of a 44. The only thing I did was hand the man my wallet. I must say it looked as if it were a cannon when I turned around.

I have nothing against concealed weapons, and am against gun control, but I would have to say, in that situation you did the exact right thing. You had friends around you and he already had the drop on you, any action other then what you did, probably would have come out badly :( Of course I wasn't there, but from the sounds of it that is my opinion.

dunno about your state but in georgia if you jump bond a bench warrant is issued, and there is no bonding out on a bench warrant..
