More and more people are just getting DVR's from the cable company and putting up with the inferior interface because it's a lot cheaper. The cable company will rent one to you for ~$5-10/mo, when the cheapest Tivo option is $12.95/mo, plus you've got to buy the box. The cable company DVR is usually HD. To get a HD Tivo, you need to spend $800 for the box, then $13/mo, plus lease at least one Cablecard from your cable company.Originally posted by: acemcmac
what makes you say that? I'm curious.

Tivo wont die, they will just sue people for money. When companies cannot innovate, they start suing.

I've seen this "it's too expensive, I'll just rent the cable company's" mentality cropping up in a lot of Tivo threads lately and it doesn't bode well for Tivo's hardware division. The software division will probably live on through deals with cable companies where you can download the Tivo software to your Cableco DVR.
