Just a thread for all the poor saps like me that don't have a holiday today.

I'm stuck at work; Thanksgiving was a month ago for me. I wish I was at home watching football. :(

Canada. Our Thanksgiving just does not seem to be as big a deal as in the US.

I'm with you KeithT. I often try to take US Thanksgiving off just to watch football, but I have a couple of tenders closing this week, so I will be at work until after the final gun of the last game.

Yeah, it sucks to be us. I think everyone up here actually gets the Lions-Packers game too, unlike a lot of people in the US. :p I really wanted to see that game.

KT

Edit: fixed my typo.

Heh, it used to be kind of random, way back. :D I don't ever remember having it on the same day as the US though.

My Canadian side doesnt get too worked up for their Thanksgiving. Possibly because its too far from Xmas and doesnt really count as "THE Holidays".

Usually they would just wait and travel down to see us where its more festive.

As for me: Big meal at a local diner (alone) and then home to sleep. I work tonight.

I just wrote this on my blog: (Posting from Korea)

Things brings us to the most controversial issue of this blog post, and one that I'm sure will make some people think less of me. I ate some dog. Yes, I did. I know you like your dog. I like your dog too. Dogs are wonderful and can be great companions and pets. At the end of the day, though- I'm sorry, but dogs are still animals. Americans and much of the world may think of dogs as something more, but let this be perfectly clear: a commonly held ideal does not constitute a natural law regardless of how passionately people feel about it. People in the western world are passionate about dogs, and that's fine. Many people in Asia simply do not adhere to western ideals, specifically this one. It's not a matter of right or wrong- there is no absolute right or wrong in the decision of which animals are good to eat and which are not. To fill this gap, we have only a giant clump of emotion. While you're thinking how inconsiderate/inhumane/sickening/wrong it is to eat dog, have you ever though about how a Hindu would feel about you eating beef? A delicious cow to you is a sacred being to them. And do you know what? Neither you nor the Hindu is more right than the other. It's just a matter of personal and cultural convictions, not absolute truth. So yes, I ate dog. I know that many will think this is 'just plain wrong', but well- the truth is that this is governed only by feelings and faraway wishes. Do you know what you get when you govern only by feelings and faraway wishes? France.

Anyway, 12 of us went to a local restaurant in lieu of a traditional American Thanksgiving meal and we all agreed to stretch our boundaries and have something we'd not had before. It was a fun time and we all enjoyed it. Here's a pic of the group:(omitted)

(Emphasis added for cliff's)

Did you eat the dog somewhere in America? If someone does not follow 'Western ideals' that is fine, but don't come here and go against those ideals. If you want to eat dog, then go somehwere in the world where that is acceptable. I would never go to a Hindu country and eat beef so don't come here and eat dogs (I'm not saying dogs are sacred btw, just making a point).

I'm in Canada too ... but I do have tomorrow off  My wife is actually flying into Phoenix tomorrow to visit her parents who are snowbirding down there, and she is taking the baby. I look forward to a few nights of blissfully quiet sleep, followed by missing the lights of my life.

Regardless, Canadian thanksgiving just isn't that big of a deal, as we make more of Christmas than the Americans seem to. That is time my family gets together as a group.

Yeah, same here. We did not even really get together for Thanksgiving this year. Christmas is where it's at!
