I want the future proof of the high FSB and DDr3 and 45nm cpu. Meantime am I boggin down the board with 6400 RAM and a 6420 CPU?

What are the thoughts of this match?

Sounds good to me !

For those who have purchased these boards, does it come with eSATA? Someone mention in another thread that the GA-P35-DS3R came with an eSATA bracket. I was just wondering if that is the same case with P35C-DS3R? The article that the original poster linked said that the review board they got didn't come with any, but I was curious if the retail ones did?

Yep Im holding it in my hand as we speak. :)

So I just got the motherboard, and I was wondering if SATA optical drives work at all with this? The reason I ask this is because on Newegg many people have complained about JMicron controller be faulty or something and that's why it's not working.

Is the JMicron controller better than the Intel one? Or is the Intel better? In general I mean disregarding this issue with optical drives.

Maybe I could mount my disks on the JMicron controller and the optical drives on intel?

Any help is appreciated!

Thanks.

Hi everyone.
I have been buying parts on the internet etc to build a system around this board.
Haven't got all the parts yet but the parts i've bought/got till now are:
- E6400 core 2 duo 1066Mhz FSB - got it cheap on ebay.
- New 2gb kit (2x1gb) Crucial DDR2-8500 (1066Mhz)
- New Ga-P35C DS3R, so that i may upgrade the processor and memory later. basically i opted for this mobo as i'm sure it will be still going strong in a few years unless we get some alien technology that makes all ours obsolete.
- Will get a case/power suplpy from a local store....ANY recommendations???
- Will be using my current Sony DRU-820A burner and change to a sata burner soon.....ANY recommendations???
- I already owned an X-Fi Platinum, will it still be better than the onboard audio? cause i can see it has got the High Definition label. Will the X-fi perform better?
-Since i have no time to play games these days, i just bought a nvidia 7300gs 256mb pcix16 card, just in case. did not want to spend too much money on that.
I basically upgraded my system as when it came to video editing/dvd ripping/photoshop etc, i found my old computer too slow. hopefully all these cores on this processor with hyperthreading etc will kick in.
So i really intend to thouroughly test/overclock this system and post all my finding/results on this forum.
until then, keep posting.
cheers and thanks.

Antec is good for cases and they have good PSU(s) also. I use them both.

Keep the X-Fi it is better, But your drivers arent updated that often at all.

I just got a Lite-On SATA it seems pretty good. :)

I was thinking about getting a GIGABYTE GA-P35C-DS3R with a Q6600 once the price slash occurs. But I'm curious what would be a good heatsink for this mobo? I was considering the Ultra-120. But it seems rather huge and doesn't seem to fit into the P35C.

Anyone have this mobo/heatsink that can tell me how it looks like?

Has anyone used this mobo with this cpu hs/fan?

Zalman CNPS7700

This thing looks huge! I'm having my doubts if it will fit this board or not. My case is a full ATX tower with plenty of room.

Thanks,
rvdaks

FYI: The New BIOS F4b is pretty good !, I can actually tell a difference in performance !

(nothing new noticable in the BIOS though.)

I'm having terrible stability performance with F4b bios, its even freezing in the bios screen. Bad flash? I'll be going back to 3b (if i can find it online again, no luck so far)

F4b works very well on my setup.

Q6600+8GB G.skill 800mhz+vista 64

acutally F4b is the one that fixed the vista 8GB lagging issue on this board.

If i update bios from f1 to f2 or f4b it messes up my wireless usb card, it doesnt get recognised! Anyone else with wireless usb?

Also i couldnt set up a stable raid0 with intel ich9r! I set up raid0 with 2x250gb drives and installed xp. Always got blue screens and constant freezes like someone mencioned here before. With gigaraid i get no problems but the performance is worst. Anyone else with this problem?

Also, anyone able to use eSATA? It doenst work here!! If i connect the esata to intels sata ports i get the same blue screens as i did with raid0! Cant try it with the gigabyte sata now cause theyre occupied with the raid drives.

With overclock i had no problems so far, i managed to put my e6600 (L629B) to 3600mhz in no time at 1.35v. Only orthos stable at 1.4125 in the bios because the vdrop is huge. When running orthos the vcore drops to 1.34v!! I would surely like to know how to make the vdrop mod in this board...anyone kows how to do it? My system temperature is at 55ºc idle, i think this is the mosfet temperatures and not the northbridge temp as i put 2 fans and articsilver 5 in the northbridge and the temperature remained the same! what are ure system temps? That 55º are at 400x9 3600mhz with 1.4125v in the bios.

Needless to say, im not very pleased with the board but dont know if this are problems with gigabyte or with intel drivers for ich9r. I hope this are problems with intels ich9r drivers!

All my problems were solved! Finally i'm running raid0 with ich9r and using esata with no problems.

After updating the bios to F2 my usb wireless card only gets recognised in windows xp if i connect it directly to the usb port or with a small cable.I used to have 3 cables connected to each other to place the card in a good spot...weird stuff!

For eSata one needs to enable achi mode in the bios for the onboard sata controller and plug the esata to the gigabyte sata ports. When installing xp i used intel matrix driver 6.2.1.1002 and everything worked out fine! Im still using this driver and i wont update it. 7.5 was the problem for me i think.

I found that the system temperature is neither the p35 or the mosfets temperature. I think its only a sensor near the ICH9R. I put a fan near that and the system temp dropped to 45º (was more then 55º)
