hmmm, very strange. In that case I would use whichever gives the highest reading to be safe.

According to GB website, F4 only fixes "PS2 keyboard compatibility issues". I have a ps2 keyboard & have no idea what these issues are. When it comes to BIOSes, I'm of the opinion that if it ain't broke don't fix it. Hence I've stayed with F2 which is working fine for me.

As you can see 5t3v0, you have the same Board, CPU, memory and processor cooling solution as I'm getting....I hope mine overclocks as well as yours...that would be my target maximum...Any basic tips from you on how to achieve this (since we have the same hardware)...or just follow the usual guides?

Check the cpu/overclocking forum here - 3rd post down. Good luck!

Edit: Are you getting those IDE-SATA converter cables & getting rid of the PCI card? I would & get the SB card back in.

Yes, I won't use the IDE controller card....and as lucky fate would have it, this card (and a floppy power splitter cable to make it work in addition to my floppy) are being shipping SEPARATE from everything else and arriving two days later then the rest, lol

This is coming from newegg....should I REFUSE that box, or is it better to receive it and then RMA it...don't want to piss newegg off! :p

So yes I'll be using my PCI Audigy 2 ZS, until I can upgrade it to something better (I do midi music creation etc, so this card isn't cutting it...but I'll worry about that later...may get rid of the FW card and go with two sound cards eventually, best of both worlds...games and music fidelity intact...) This SB should at least smoke the onboard for now even if somehow it's half decent, from all I've read that seems to be the case.

...since I just ordered the motherboard, I wonder what BIOS version it will be...hopefully 2 or 3 (as I don't use a PS2 keyboard at all)

Don't refuse the shipment, it's just stupid...just request a return/refund from NewEgg and send it back once you get it. Refusing it will just cause problems

I just like the idea of not having to deal with a return label and mailing it out again....so I'd rather refuse it...I'm gonna call them on Mon though and get "permission" to do so....but if all else fails, yeah, I won't refuse it....Thanks SilentBobSpeaks.

Hey guys, I have a question about the PCI slot config....since I'm not installing the IDE controller card now, this is going to be the PCI cards I have to install:

PCI Firewire
PCI Sound Blaster Audigy 2 ZS

Is there a PCI slot ordering preference? (keep in mind I'm adding a TV tuner card later) I'll be changing my basic PCI-E X1650 card later on to the best of the best (whatever that is around DEC), but I'm just curious what everyone's thoughts on the slot order is.

Also I do plan on installing some items that will take up some of the slots in the back...such as Gigabyte's external SATA connecter AND I have a cooling fan that attached to one of those seven slots of my choice (the fan is on the bottom of the cooler and is an exhaust type fan.

Any ideas/tips appreciated.

It shouldn't matter. I would just configure them so to maximize space inbetween cards for airflow.

Did you end up getting the IDE to SATA convertors?

I read on another forum some guy used them and they blew up his rig!!!!!!! LOL. just kidding. As 5t3v0 and sniper would say - i'm on the piss right now :)

mrfatboy,

Hahahaha! You almost gave me a heart attack...yeah I ordered 3 of them from newegg...didn't want to risk some cheapo piece of crap imported version from eBay that is made out of shoelace and dentures, etc...

Paying about $40 + freight for all 3

Hi everybody, I'm new here and I would like to know if you can help me. I'm planning to build a computer whit the following parts, but I'm not sure abuot the RAM. I'm planning to overclock the computer because I need to compute a lot of calculus (I'm a physicist by the way).

mobo GA-P35C-Ds3r
CPU E4400
Cooler Thermalright Ultra 120 Extreme
Case Cooler Master Mystique
PSU Cooler Master iGreen 500Watts
GPU ATI Radeon HD 6400 Pro (I'm not a gamer, I only watch DVD's occasionally)
2 units Western Digital SATA II 320GB
DVD RW Asus

As you ca see I already have almost everything, but I'm very confused with the RAM. I have already read a lot of reviews of some models but I don't know which one is better for me, and actually Now I'm quite confused, because there are alot of contradictions. I'm looking for a 2GB kit (2x1GB) of PC2- 6400 around the $100 dlls, because I'm running aout of money with this configuration, but I want something that allow me to overclock the system as far as possible.

Thanks in advance

Chupes,

me and 5t3v0 use this memory and I keep reading about great results with this memory and board combination

http://www.newegg.com/Product/...p?Item=N82E16820145034

$40 rebate on this memory and you end up paying $64 + freight...GREAT price for 2GB

I should probably mention that I haven't gotten my system built yet, parts are expected to arrive tomorrow, but look at the signature of 5t3v0...he has his processor which is the same one I'm getting (I do recommend the e6750 if possible) to an impressive 3.6ghz...of course other factors apply but I also have the same CPU cooler as 5t3v0 ordered (Artic Freezer 7 pro, newegg has for 15-20 dollars), so I have hope!

This is one recommendation and its the only one I can naturally make. Crucial is also highly recommended, just expect to pay more (due to the Corsair rebate, etc...)

i like my ram. see my sig. I would advice looking at everybody's sig and then go from there. Crucial and Corsair seem to be the favorites.

5t3v0,

You mention in that other thread:

3. MB heatsink is re-set using Arctic Silver 5

I'll be getting Artic silver 5 with my order...but how do I go about doing this mod? Are you talking about the big Northbridge heatsink?? Thanks....

Nice try, but the Corsair ends up being $6 cheaper (initially and after rebate!), hahaha, and believe it or not my total computer cost was SO CLOSE to what I had available when I ordered that this actually made the difference for me...I was torturing myself over which of the two to buy...plus I like to tell myself I always wanted to try CORSAIR, but either choice is great from what I've heard...

...I wish I knew if their really was a superior one between the two...I guess it's a toss up!

THIS SUCKS!!

I'm reading some places online that claim it's not safe/wise to use an adapter to convert a 20pin PSU power connecter to a 24pin which is what this Gigabyte apparently uses...because you should have an actual 24 pin PSU for the current draw....cases of people melting the connectors on their board supposedly...is this true...anyone currently using an adapter to convert to a 24pin that can refute this?

Can someone check thier manual and tell me if it discusses this at all and perhaps gives a minimum AMP required on the 12v rail? MY current PSU supports 28 AMPS maximum on the +12v...

Thanks! I hope I can use my current PSU!

BTW what is everyone's PSU Watt rating? if I can use this one it's 530Watts, is that enough with a cheapo sapphire x1650 card??

hey guys, another n00b to the forums, and my first post! woohoo...
this thread persuaded me to go with the motherboard, must say i am impressed..

I just finished whacking together a quadcore (q6600),2GB corsair XMS (4-4-4-12) and a leadtek 8800 gts (640mb).

I was wanting to overclock it but have never really done this. What tools should i be using?
what can i expect?
Also what kind of results are people getting with the q6600?

anyone else here using the same graphics?

thanks for your help guys. if this has been covered could you nudge me in the correct direction ;)

cheers!

I have a seasonic 500w M12 PSU and it runs everything listed above, plus 4 SATA drives and a DVD drive, not to mention all the fans in my Antec 900 case. :p

Ahhh, that's great...then my PSU should be laughing in scorn at the attempt of my system to take it down...I was just wondering because Gigabyte recommends at least a 400watt PSU to run the board, so I figured I was pushing it...guess not!

Hey JMAC,

Does your PSU use a 20 or 24 pin connector? Mine only has a 20pin, and I'm hearing that some people use adapters to 24 pin, some people don't even use the adapter (some advise against it actually) and then other's say you must buy a 24pin PSU, period...it's rather confusing...

MrFatboy & I have written some experiences of overclocking this board in this thread. It's for dual core but principles are the same. Just watch your temps more closely. 1st & 3rd posts on page 1.

Yep. When mine arrived it was hanging on by one pin so I had to reseat it. The thermal paste GB had used was rock hard & was absolute sh!t so I would recommend doing it even if it arrives attached. You'll need to scrape the paste off with your finger nail or a bank card before you can wipe it clean.

BTW, I have a 485W Enermax which is doing just fine. I've never bought into the idea of paying a fortune for a high wattage PSU only to have it run at 50% capacity.

5t3vo,

Sorry, don't mean to make you hold my hand during this, but when you applied the AS5 to the NB heatsink, did you just make one line down the center across the whole length or did you try to spread it all evenly yourself? Any tips on the application would be great..I used the AS5 instructions on their website for the CPU, just not sure how to tackle the NB.

its a 24 pin, i can recommend Seasonic.. and they aren't too expensive, plus its modular so easy to manage the cables, which are wrapped to help air flow and route.

5t3v0 - Thanks for the link, will read it when i get home.
