I greatly enjoy wraith night. It's a fun mode and unlike diretide you get immediate feedback when you screw up (ie, your hero dies or your towers start falling).
 
can anybody give any info on "A Welcoming Gift". anybody opened it ??? whats inside it.. please tell.. can't find anything online ..
 
I'm about lvl 160. Read somewhere that I should get all drops as gift which new system would have given me.
 
Yeah, you keep opening presents until the level requirement is too high. Most likely a new present system for new players, encouraging them to play more and level up.

Wraight night was interesting, had the most success with Shadow Fiend and Axe.
 
The gifts level 1-10 are basically one of every type of item they have. A name tag, a chisel, a couple gems, a custom ward, a custom announcer pack, a custom UI. All of it is account bound. When you open those ten, your next gift is your current level + 5.

Yep, from what I understand each gift has set items and 1 random cosmetic item in it.

Man, a part of me wishes I was unemployed and miserable again. I played the crap out of dota and this ranked mode would mean I'd truly test if I could be 99% again like I was rated by Dotabuff DBR a year ago.

Now I work my ass off, eat/wind down for about 90 mins then pass out.

As with any game, there are TONS of casuals. I mean those who play 1-3x a week or pick it up once in awhile.

If you belong to this forum + play somewhat consistently, the chances are you are better than 50-70% of everyone.
 
There's a huge difference between Solo and Team.
Also a huge difference in the match mode. AP, CM, CD.
3757 Solo ATM limiting to only CD.

Heya P0rkguy,

What differences have you seen?
And do you always try to pick the same role?

I'm sure rotating characters and roles (at least while still on the steep part of the learning curve) will affect your skill too.

I'm actually afraid to do any ranked stuff. Not because I'm afraid of facing the truth, but because I want to make sure I'm at my best before I tread in those waters, to get my true peak rating. And I just haven't been playing that well lately.
 
You don't have to stress too much, Turbo. I thought the same when I queued up for rank matches the first time, thinking I'm going to be the uber noob dragging the team down. It's not much different, you just have to deal with stupid Captains and their picks sometimes.
 
Just finished my 10 games for solo rating, and got 3941. I play any hero/role and the 3 and 4 stacks I get matched with seem to like that. I think my team rating is actually going to be lower than solo...
 
Mastery Gems are the new set of gems that will change the ability effect of the hero that carries the item that the gem is embedded in. The first Mastery Gem comes with the Keeper of the Northlight Set. It changes the default spirit horses of illuminate to a new custom stag model.

Wraith Night is still going on but it's time to talk about the next BIG update to Dota 2.

The Year of the Horse approaches and it will reach the world of Dota 2 towards the end of January and if you are a Workshop Artist, you can help shape the event. Make items themed around the Chinese New Year, Chinese history or just spring related and submit them with the tag using "Spring2014". Final date for submissions is Jan 15, 2014.
