I never knew about that command. If I had I would have used it all the time. I am horrible at judging distance in Dota for some reason.

Here is a handy tip. Gauge it based on your hero.

1. Most ranged heroes have 550-600 range.

2. Attack creeps with it, now you know the distance

3. Half of that distance between you and the target is 300. So you know what 300 feels like and also 900 feels like.

4. 1200 range is double of 600.

Your hero is not ranged? Plenty of your enemies are. Also ranged lane creep is 500.

I know, Dota is just for some reason the only game I seem to have difficulty judging range still for whatever reason. I guess since you spend more time looking at everything else besides your character you lose track. I play Lina and Crystal Maiden mostly now as I don't have the time to dedicate to mastering Bloodseeker again (I was very very good with him in Dota 1) and am to rusty for my own good lol

This game is ridiculous. So so so much to learn.

About after 2000-3000 games, you think you know, but you STILL learn little things that make a HUGE difference in high skill games (anticipating attack animation, predicting enemy behavior, juke spots, knowing enemy CDs by heart and reacting perfectly for big plays, pre-hitting another auto attack to creep under tower so you last hit perfectly in an otherwise tower's last hit, etc).

Added the game to my cart on Steam to buy it and it said I already owned the game. Installed it and it looks like I only have the Spectator Only version. I'm confused lol. I already have the game, but I need to buy the early access on Steam?

Oh wow, you must that lowest common denominator 'general public' that companies/advertising/researchers can't stand because they always fail to follow the simplest instrucitons. :colbert:

Look at the OP of this thread. Look at the repeated replies. Look at the title, for god's sake.

The game is FREE but requires an invite.

PM me your email and I can send you one.

Yea sorry I read the OP again after I posted and saw you need an invite. My bad.

So lately I've been playing DOTA 2 between 9PM to 2AM Pacific Time and for the past few days I've been getting into games where like 3 to 4 Russion AND 3 to 4 Latin players that all qued in together respectively.... I was always lucky enough to get on the team with 3 to 4 Latins who qued together - and we always end up crushing the Russians or LOL them.

I just wanted to throw it out here. If you have any questions about the game, heroes, skills, laning, or the mechanics, feel free to ask me or anyone. I can answer most of them or find them out for you.

hi guys, i m Mandeep Singh(i think this is my 1st post on AnandTech).
played original dota for about 5 years and have been playing dota 2 since 25 dec 2011.

Man for some reason I just suck at this game. I thought I would do better but even playing against bots I usually end up being the lowest leveled hero with the least amount of kills and the most deaths. I played the original DOTA for years, played other MOBAs including LoL and HoN, but with DOTA2 I just seem terrible.

One thing to note is that I did set the bot difficulty to the hardest possible and had a question about that: does it only set one of the opposing bots to that level, or does it set the whole opposing bot team to that level ("unfair" setting). The other thing is that I can't seem to find the damn mute button, so almost every game has someone calling me names, or insulting me in some way. In other MOBA's I would just mute the player but can't seem to find where to do it in DOTA2.

From this very popular guide as found in OP.

You can set difficulty of bots all individually, instead of clicking "automatically fill empty slots with bots".

As for bots, Unfair is quite difficult unless you're very good and keen on exploiting their tendencies. They cheat gold and hp/mp regen.

I can beat 5 Unfair bots vs me + 2 medium bots. But you HAVE to pick a specific snowballing hero that can both gank early & carry late (Luna, Storm, Axe actually works, etc). And end the game pretty fast (35-40 mins) before they come back with a vengeance with free gold.

Hang in there. Even the guide stresses that you must endure all the flamers at first. Then you'll be having fun in no time. Don't take flaming personally. EVERYONE is flamed. I get flamed too non-stop whenever I have a bad game or people are mad at themselves.

Juddog are you sure you played HoN? I just ask because the nicest person in HoN is still leagues worse than the meanest person I've encountered in Dota 2.

Ahh ok cool thanks! To clarify I set the bots to unfair in the "co-op vs bot" setup.

is it only me or others also think that Treant Protector is overpowered now???

global living armor with 25 mana cost

That's his bread & butter so I don't mind.

Icefrog has been buffing him over and over until he finally gets picked competitively. I like it.

He's really fun now in pubs too. The global armor is VERY frustrating to enemies when you clutch save them so many times. Also you can cast it on yourself, run in and bully harass. Retreat, repeat.
