what are your settings in the bios?

at this point i think the general recommendation would be to remove the battery and then clear the cmos.

As stated, I've already cleared the cmos (removed battery, moved jumper, etc) and am still getting stuck before I get into BIOS. I can't tell what the BIOS settings are, they are default at the moment.

Post your equipemnt specs. That will help alot. Try using only 1 DIMM, use only the black slots for memory.

try removing all other ide drives so you only have the one boot drive. and i agree with trying 1 mem stick.

I need some general help - not even OC.

I bought this board. E6400, 8800 GPS, etc.

Everything went together great. Had no problems getting into the bios, making changes, setting up the RAID, and loading Windows XP.

Everything booted just fine, then I tried to install an XP driver from the CD so I could get the ethernet card running (was then going to update to the latest from the web site). After installing the driver, the system wanted to restart which I allowed.

The system posted just fine, then hung on the "press DEL to enter setup" screen prior to BIOS (or part of BIOS). The system is locked completely and requires a power cycle to do anything. If I press and hold the DEL key upon boot, the system hangs saying "Entering Setup."

I have gone through the process of clearing the CMOS but that doesn't help. I called ASUS and the guy told me that my OCZ memory was probably the problem (doesn't make sense). I then waited and called ASUS again this morning and the other tech said the first one was an idiot (exact quote) and that the problem is likely a bad drive cable.

So far, nothing seems to be working to get this past this stage...

Any ideas?

Unplug your keyboard and mouse all usb devices 1 stick of ram in the a2 slot and power it on and see what happens
EDIT sounds like a conflict with the lan or usb. What drivers did you load?

I have read on that other forum H that some ES chips or Engineering Samples are available for sale from a certain place. Can anyone tell me whether and ES chip is different from the regulag chips?

For example:

Intel Confidential
QLL0 ES MALAY
80557PH0674M
L610A732

Anyone else hear about these?

i have read that the ES have unlocked multi's up and down? i would imagine that performance/overclocking would have to be somewhat worse as they are likely early revisions. that would possibly be offset though by being able to use a higher multi with a lower fsb for stability sake.

My machine now lives.

I unhooked all the sata cables and EIDE cables and booted and was able to get into BIOS. Then I plugged in the sata drives again and booted. Fine. Then plugged in my EIDE (DVD recorder) drive.

That fixed the problem. Then I just had to remember my BIOS updates.

Thanks to all the responded.

oh. i was reading in another forum from some guy who received one and then another guy who got one said he finally emailed intel and they were not happy and he implied that they were going to stop. i guess not :)

intel told him those have no warranty.
