Long article, please skim...

They left out a significant part, and eluded incorrectly at the end.
The article states that in the end there will be nothing, but if it busts, or implodes, there should be another big bang, which should cause everything to go boom outwards again.

So, any non-religious theories amongst us?

It's not quite that simple. There are many theories and others don't only involve the implosion of our universe and a subsequent big bang, but the "big bang" of another universe in our 10 dimensional (11 with time) theoretical total universe :)

Schlocemus is right about that... too many theories. But I'm going to say ... BUST. Just because it sounds nicer :) Well, I think it'll be a BUST... then in the very very very distant future, a BOOM!

I hope it doesn't go boom until after I die. Then again, I accidentally turn it to MTV and wish it go boom right now. Britney Spears and Nsync are the devils' official Earthly representatives.

There's an interesting Sci-fi book on the subject. "Manifold: time" by Stephen Baxter. Also has a fascinating bit on time and causality.

Our universe will continue to expand indefinitely. There will never be an implosion if you will nor will there be another big bang. This has been scientifically proven by scientists in some underground neutrino lab. If the universe were to implode, neutrinos would be the force pulling it back together, but all the neutrinos in the universe do not have enough mass to do that.

So far it does indeed appear that the Universe will continue to expand. Of course, at some moment all matter will be pulled into black holes so even this Universe won't 'live' forever. It'll be a cold and dark place in the end.

I hope it goes boom/bust while i'm alive. Come on guys, it will be the ride of a lifetime! Why would you not want to experience that?

my favorite quotes about the universe

"There is a theory which states that if ever anyone discovers exactly what the Universe is for and why it is here, it will instantly disappear and be "laced by something even more bizarre and inexplicable. There is another theory which states that this has already happened."

"In the beginning, the universe was created. This made a lot of people very angry, and has been widely regarded as a bad idea."
