The United States needs to be not so much loved as it needs to be respected. - Dick Cheney

I'm sorry, but Dick Cheney saying something dumb isn't really news. The policies that he pushed for are a significant part of the reason that the Republican party is so universally reviled.

Let him go, he's powerless now, and real adults are busily undoing all the damage that he's done.

How Machiavellian...

also, I don't think it's fair that he gets to spend 8 years helping to shape foreign policy in a way that practically goads terrorists into attacking america and then claim, as if he has some kind of divine foresight, that an attack is looming..

I'll just keep kicking this dog in the face over and over again and you watch.. it'll turn and bite me because it's a vicious animal that needs to be put down!

Are you serious? GTFO out with that old BS!

Reading that article infuriates me.

Towards the end of the article, he specifically states that the Patriot Act, the water boarding, all the laws they broke, are essentially thee most reason(s) why we haven't had another terrorist attack on US soil.

Do you agree with that?

Yes I agree with him.

How come you're not dying for his war in Iraq then?

Iraq was not mentioned in the OP. Nice try though.

Not with your misinterpretation but I fully agree with the Bush admin's position re terrorism.

Some people are better in other capacities. I'm paying for it with cash.

While I might think that Cheney's policies are dumb, along with... well... the vast majority of the US, foreign policy experts, fiscal policy experts, domestic policy experts, adherents to international law, pretty much the entire rest of the world, etc... etc. supporting the war in Iraq or thinking it was a good idea doesn't mean you have to go personally fight in it.

Yeah but if they did they wouldn't be so gung ho about war.

Edit: On second thought, you're right. I totally supported the mission in Afghanistan.

Cheney is an asshole. He thinks like an asshole and sees the world like an asshole. Naturally, everything he says and does is what an asshole would say and do. Cheney is a disease, a disease called cowardly fear.

All the higher instincts that make humans great are missing in Cheney. The poor man is a emotional cripple.

Say what you want about Bush, Iraq, etc. But if you look at the pattern of AQ attacks, going 2001-2009 with no new attacks on American soil =

You can measure this a million ways........

How many US citizens died on US soil from 1992-2000 under president A, or how many US citizens died from 2000-2008 under president B.

I had no sailfish land on my yacht during that exact same period, and say what you want, the two phenomena are similarly related.

That doesnt work here, sorry. WTC 1, USS Cole, African Embassy Bombings, WTC2, Bali, Spain

There was a pattern of attacks. The pattern obviously continued after 9/11, but not on our interests. They had to go for "softer" targets in Eurpoe.

So, unless there was a pattern of sailfish on your yacht that then stopped, your logic fails.

Well you said American soil, and if you count the time from the 1993 WTC attacks to the 2001 WTC attacks, we also had about the same period of time without attacks on US soil. Without being able to point to plots thwarted, evidence from AQ that they were unable to do certain things due to US actions, etc, the correlation doesn't mean a lot.

Oh, and more than 4,000 US citizens have been killed in Iraq. I count them among our interests.

Cheney saw his shadow...

Every so often, he pops up from his undisclosed location, sees his own shadow, and warns of more terrorist attacks.

All he is doing is laying the groundwork in case we are attacked during the Obama administration. It's just a transparent political move, like most moves by the Bush supporters. It's all politics, even our safety.

USS Cole and Embassies are United States sovereign soil.
