The unfinished war... Afghanistan, U.S. Chinhook shot down

Reminiscent of Afghan Mujahideen shooting down Russian Hinds decades ago.

The US Afghani occupation is very much like its Iraqi counterpart. Namely we came in and destroyed all local institutions and then added nothing real to replace those institutions.
For all the nutty Islamic aspects of the Taliban, it was the home grown entity that was restoring law and order---and making a modern Central Government possible for the first time since 1937 because the Taliban was reining in the powers of the local warlords that made commerce and national unity impossible.

And our initial occupation act was to ally ourselves with the very warlords who kept Afghanistan in a perpetual state of government by thuggery.---and we have now brought government by thuggery back to most all of Afghanistan. And the only they we have added is a new national government that is so weak that Karzi might as well be the mayor of Kabul. Out in the countryside---the war lords are back in firm control, any sort of national commerce is impossible, opium production has nearly tripled, and we have replaced the Russians as the hated occupiers.

And now we wonder why the Taliban is coming back?

To make it worse the NATO rescue team was ambushed trying to get to the crash site. Afganistan insurgency surges on with a lack of soliders to restore law and order and get rid of militant factions.

The EXACT same thing happened in Iraq on Monday, which is why we lost 8 soldiers in one incident. The terrorists are exporting their knowledge to other hot-spots around the globe. Scary.

Yeah noticed that too we getting a lot more sophisticated and cordinated attacks. As well as an increase in attacks on helicopters.

Aye, and it's not as bad as all that! Only five were Americans. The other two were a Canadian and a Britain. Five Americans Die in Helicopter Crash I always hate it when people write or news sources say, "So many Americans were killed." Like the rest -- say the 200 or so Afghan civilians killed last month -- are not newsworthy.

Anyway, don't feel quite as bad. The link story says just five Americans.

Most reports indicate that nearly all 200 of them were Taliban, or those caught in the crossfire in fights initiated by the Taliban in densely populated areas. The Taliban intentionally does so on a regular basis in order to cause civilian deaths - obviously to make the NATO forces look bad.

As for ALL of those lost in the chopper crash, my thoughts go out to their families. They were in a fight worth fighting, and deserve nothing but respect and remembrance from everyone here.

Flying in a damn Chinook over Afghanistan is one of the most nerve-racking experiences in the world... just thinking about it makes me pucker up!
