The Ultimate Survivalism Thread

This thread is for the sharing of all things survivalism and prepper related. Be it a zombie apocalypse, how to survive in a stranded car during a blizzard or how to light a fire, etc. Feel free to share prepper related tools and tradecraft.

I'll start by sharing a video on how to create a fire with nothing more than a sandwich bag and water.

The same guy shares how to open a coconut. Very interesting as I always wanted to know how to do that.

Rope work is way underappreciated by the general population. I see people all time driving with noob straps, or shit tied down with rope/twine/shoestrings... that has an incredibly small chance of making the whole journey.

Back in high school while I was in JROTC, we learned how to tie several knots. I even learned how to tie a Swiss seat. Talk about restricting the blood flow to your balls.

Nice. I'd really like to learn about knots cause besides the basic one you tie your shoes with, that's about all I know (yes I'm a pleb). I think I'll start by picking like 5 of the most basic/useful/common ones and learn those. Hopefully I don't forget them cause honestly, I hardly ever find the need to tie knots. I'll probably have to periodically do a refresher/practice on them haha.

You can do almost everything you need with a sheetbend, bowline, truckers cinch, and anchor bend. That'll get you everything from a repaired shoelace, to all your crap home in one piece from homedepot.

And for those who will end up like Waggy the hangman's noose is a must...

Too soon?

Hmmm. Well thanks, I think I'll start by learning those first. I got a bunch of paracord, I'll just cut a couple lengths of that. Gives me something to practice while watching YouTube/Netflix haha.

I thought it was interesting that in Boy Scouts we learned how to tie that knot. I have my doubts it's in the book now though. This was in the early 90's.

Hell, when I was in JROTC in LET 1, the book talks about shooting, but the teacher said we won't cover that.

You can burn crayons for light.

If you are in a flood zone you can store things in your dishwasher.

If you need to store a crap load of water. Put two trash bags together in a trash can and fill with water.

The water in your toilet tank is generally safe to drink. Providing of course you haven't added any chemicals.

Buy a few of these for a SHTF scenario. https://www.amazon.com/Filtration-E...sr=8-1-spell&keywords=drinking+purified+starw

Cosco and Sams Club are now selling 1 moth food supplies. Look into that.

You should have one or two go bags. https://www.amazon.com/s?ie=UTF8&field-keywords=go bag&index=blended&link_code=qs&sourceid=Mozilla-search&tag=mozilla-20

You might be able to build your own cheaper. I bought a lot of my stuff including a surgeons kit on eBay.

Trash bags are often treated with chemicals meant to repel various nefarious life forms. Best not to use them for Food or Water storage.

Interesting. There goes that idea. I seen it on FaceMoron during the hurricanes. So Perhaps just clean out and fill the trash can? LOL
