Any of you screwballs picking BB over CC, have NOT tried returning something to BB lately. As far as prices go, one will match the other, so that's a wash. Actually, everything else is a wash. The huge difference is the return policy!

That and how you are treated. And Bestbuy sucks at that by a mile also. I have never fealt weird or unwanted at a CC, but BB is always weired if you plan on buying ANYTHING over $50 dollars.

:)

I like both Best Buy and Circuit City and I'm a Reward Zone member with Best Buy and I shop there at least once a week. It's kind of embarrassing because some of the staff have commented that "see me all the time there", or "I should just get a job there since I'm there more than they are"...

The ability and ease to which you can return something depend solely on the retail management of that store, not the corporate policy. I can name the few times I've actually shopped at CC and had to go through the "check for cocaine stuffed in a balloon up my ass" hassle of returning the crap back. And yes, that depended solely on that crappy store's managers more than anything else. I'm lucky the BB I frequent the most has managers who care about customer service and actually take the time to listen. All their employees at least greet me and back off when I tell them I don't need any help.

Retailers are talking tough with return policies for items such as consumer electronics.
  • No. 1 electronics retailer Best Buy (BBY: Research, Estimates) is slapping a 15 percent restocking fee on returns for certain items. The retailer's return deadline is Jan. 8 for personal computers, cameras, and camcorders, and Jan. 24 for appliances and televisions.

Customers have it easier at Best Buy's rival and No. 2 electronics retailer Circuit City (CC: Research, Estimates), which has been aggressively touting a "no-hassle" return policy in its advertisements. Circuit City also discontinued restocking fees on return items two years ago.

I'd like to buy stuff and Circuit City, but nobody is ever around to help me! Nobody is at the cash register, nobody is at the service counter...can't they just have plain old checkout lanes like everyone else?

What's your point?

14 days from the date merchandise was received, refunds are available on:
Computers
Monitors
Printers
Notebook Computers
Camcorders
Digital Cameras
Radar Detectors
A 15% restocking fee will be charged on returns or exchanges of any opened notebook computer, camcorder, digital camera or radar detector, unless defective. Exchanges can only be made at a Best Buy store within the United States.

30 days from the date merchandise was received, refunds are available on the remainder of our merchandise

The above is their normal return policy. If they got these gifts as a Christmas gift, from Dec 26 - Jan 8 is about 14 days, with the same items qualifying for the 15% return policy. That has been their return policy for years.

I don't really care for either store but our closest BB is better than the closest CC. The CC near us used to be a real dump but they've done a good job making it much nicer. My big problem with both stores is the lack of knowledgeable sales people and getting someone to help when I need help. Both stores suck for pushing the extended warranty so hard. I feel really bad for the uninformed consumers.

Somebody's handle should be RagingTHICK.

First of all, I didn't write it. Second of all, this is ALSO what was written:

CC is still better than BB, but quickly spirling downhill. I've worked at CC for over 3 years, and the fall of the company is rapid and disgusting. When they switched from commission to hourly, the employees that they DIDNT fire stopped caring, and the ones they hired to replace the ones they'd fired were all high school morons(typical BB employees actually). They just recently reinstated restocking fees as well. I really don't like the direction the company is going, but hey, what can I do about it?

"... the employees that they DIDNT fire stopped caring..."

Not sure how much "hand holding" people have a right to expect, when they're getting rock bottom prices. Same thing with Walmart. Exactly how much help should you expect, when you're only asked to pay the bare minimum price? Something tells me, 9 shoppers out of 10, will opt for lower prices and no service, rather than the other way around. The problem now is, too many people expect both!

I'd say CC wins overall (better policty, employees), but they just don't carry certain stuff. Like washing msahines or refrigerators. Then it's either BB or Sears.

Oh yea, people expect the best service you could possibly get. The company really screwed up with that move...they fired all the TOP sales people. No exaggeration. Each store, based on its income, had an income level, for example if your hourly average on commission was over $15 or $20/hr, you were fired. This a) got rid of your best associates and b) left the remaining associates dissolutioned as to if they company really cared...and now that they were getting the same hourly rate regardless of what they sold, they really just didn't care anymore. I know I don't. Sure, I'll put my all into the sale once I am working with a customer, and my customers always love me, but I do actively avoid customers. I'm pretty damn good at it these days. I was screwed though...I was transfering stores when they made the switch, so my $16/hr average became the starting salary of $9.50. Complete BS if you ask me.

Then why post it? What point were you trying to make?

Oh and:

Any of you screwballs picking BB over CC, have NOT tried returning something to BB lately

BB's return policy has NOT changed significantly over the past X years, yet you made the point of the "hassle" of returning something to BB lately.

Oh, and CC's return policy listed on this page:

http://www.circuitcity.com/cs_contentdisplay.jsp?c=1&b=g&u=c&incat=11165

Now seems to appear to apply to B&M purchases as well, after calling and having someone verify it at the local store, as stated here:

The company hopes to turn that around with measures such as cutting the service department, introducing its own-brand products and toughening its return policy, including imposing restocking fees on returned products, Foss said.
