Any of you screwballs picking BB over CC, have NOT tried returning something to BB lately. As far as prices go, one will match the other, so that's a wash. Actually, everything else is a wash. The huge difference is the return policy!Originally posted by: Gurck
Well both are horrible, but if one is less evil than the other, it's BB, IMO.

Gotta say Best Buy. I have shopped there so often that I know the entire staff. And I get great deals (extra money taken off) and they treat me really well. the Circuit City near me is always dirty and the staff is not that great.

The ability and ease to which you can return something depend solely on the retail management of that store, not the corporate policy. I can name the few times I've actually shopped at CC and had to go through the "check for cocaine stuffed in a balloon up my ass" hassle of returning the crap back. And yes, that depended solely on that crappy store's managers more than anything else. I'm lucky the BB I frequent the most has managers who care about customer service and actually take the time to listen. All their employees at least greet me and back off when I tell them I don't need any help.

Retailers are talking tough with return policies for items such as consumer electronics.
- No. 1 electronics retailer Best Buy (BBY: Research, Estimates) is slapping a 15 percent restocking fee on returns for certain items. The retailer's return deadline is Jan. 8 for personal computers, cameras, and camcorders, and Jan. 24 for appliances and televisions.
Customers have it easier at Best Buy's rival and No. 2 electronics retailer Circuit City (CC: Research, Estimates), which has been aggressively touting a "no-hassle" return policy in its advertisements. Circuit City also discontinued restocking fees on return items two years ago.
14 days from the date merchandise was received, refunds are available on:
Computers
Monitors
Printers
Notebook Computers
Camcorders
Digital Cameras
Radar Detectors
A 15% restocking fee will be charged on returns or exchanges of any opened notebook computer, camcorder, digital camera or radar detector, unless defective. Exchanges can only be made at a Best Buy store within the United States.
30 days from the date merchandise was received, refunds are available on the remainder of our merchandise

First of all, I didn't write it. Second of all, this is ALSO what was written:

The company hopes to turn that around with measures such as cutting the service department, introducing its own-brand products and toughening its return policy, including imposing restocking fees on returned products, Foss said.
