Better drunk than hung over. Good grief...I couldn't image how painful a lift off would be with a 5 alarm hang over.

I'd wanna be buzzed before they strap me into one of those things... you have a DD in Houston mission control anyway 🙂

I dont know that id be drunk for the liftoff... but for the return... definately... I hate the feeling of falling...

Haha, well put  Launching under influence (LUI).

Screw being drunk. I'd wanna be higher than a hot air balloon before you throw me into one of those flying death traps 😱

I think those would be the result of drunk technicians, engineers, or managers. Once the rocket's ignited, I don't think the crew can flip the "blow up" switch.

From what I've read, some of the problems over the years have happened because low-level engineers' warnings to their superiors were not addressed, or simply ignored.

To the "isn't it all automatic" comments, the majority of take off activities are indeed automated of the crew only the first and second chairs really have any work to do.

That said there are an incredible amount of contingencie plans in case the launch fails (e.g. en engine fails in flight, emergency escape before launch, etc) and being drunk would certainly not the crews reaction speed if they evacuated or had to jump out (yep, there is plans for even that...)
