Ok, so I am so bored, I priced up a computer for under 1000 just for fun (not counting monitor) and this is what I got:
SOLTEK SL-75DRV5 (Purple Ray): $83
AMD Athlon 1600+/266 $55
Samsung Original DDR333 PC-2700 512mb $168
Thermalright SK-6 $21
Thermaltake 60X60X25mm $11
EVERCASE|P4ATXM300W E4252WSF-FE4252, beige, Sparkle Power $65
Alps 3.5 Inch Floppy Disk Drive $12
TOSHIBA INTERNAL DVD ROM, 16X DVD $44
Lite On 48x12x48 CDRW Model LTR-48125W OEM $75
WD WESTERN DIGITAL "SPECIAL EDITION" 80GB 7200RPM $107
VOYETRA TURTLE BEACH SANTA CRUZ $63
NETGEAR FA311 $17
ATI RADEON 8500LE 128MB DDR $107
Logitech Z540 5-Piece Speaker System $70
Logitech Deluxe Access 104 PS/2 Keyboard $13
Logitech Mouseman Dual Optical $46
All prices INCLUDE shipping and are from newegg. Picked the SK-6 cause it's good and the fan cause its quiet. The AX-7 will not fit in the mobo which was picked for it's shutdown feature if the processor got too hot (a lot cheaper than the Asus board which boasts the same feature).
Total is $957 which MAY be less as sometimes newegg gives a break on shipping on bigger orders. The 1600+ can be overclocked well according to people on these forums. This would not be a bad machine for the money, especially considering that a Radeon 8500 comes close to competing with a TI4200 with the newer drivers.
Anyways... Now I have to figure something else to spend my time on
