I say Pres. Bush get on National Television when China is listening and say

"the United States of America in incredibly sorry that a chinese pilot was wreckless and did not know how to fly, but we will more sorry if we have to use force to retrieve our soldiers"

thats how he should do it!

The Chinese pilot was reckless and thus caused the wreck.

Force is not a realistic solution.

Limiting trade, moving towards recognizing Taiwan, selling Taiwan arms for defense are more likely ways this will be dealt with.

People (and countries) who are feared tend to go down in flames. And the last time a politician had genuine respect for someone, people lived in caves.

Careful what you wish for. Or in your ambitious stumbling you might wake the dragon.

"We're sorry that your pilots are incompetent and can't stay clear of much larger, unarmed, and more cumbersome aircraft. We should be relieved that it was not a passenger liner that your pilot chose to fly into that day."

heheheh :D

<< but don't worry viet is not as weak as you think they kick the sh*t out french >>

really... this isn't saying much...

but guess who kicked who's a$$ in the tet offensive? (not to be insulting) it was the US kicking vietnamese a$$, which is the opposite of how it was portrayed and remembered over stateside, part of the reason morale of the citizens was low.

<< Japan had the exact same idea as you did in the 40's >>

japan was a rising star then, not a downtrodden power like germany. japan had humiliated the russians in a rather bloody war that foreshadowed WWI in 1905; had defeated colonial germany in WWI; and beaten china to its knees in the 1930s. they weren't trying to reclaim glory.

Udumb*ss:

Force is, and should always be, the last option. Throwing our weight around like a bully should not be the American way. We didn't do it in WWII-we were a very reluctant participant. We have done it in Viet Nam, Nicaragua, Korea, Cuba, Panama, ad nauseum.

As one of the commentators said on NPR, what America needs for this China dilemma is a word between apology and regret-a sort of "apologrets". I'd hate to see 24 of our people held in prison, or worse, because we couldn't come up with the right word to satisfy the Chinese dictators.

No, America doesn't have anything to apologize for. The elephant doesn't step on the rabbit.

Tactically we won 90% of the battles in vietnam. The only way to win the Vietnam war would have been genocide. You can't fight insurgent wars, you can't win. The french learned this painfully in Vietnam and pulled out, we stupidly engaged because of the fear of communism.

Phuz...........maybe you should look at history a bit more closely....:) England was nearly done in when the U.S. "officially" entered the Euoropean Theatre. When the U.S. started flying sorties and our troops and supplies began in mass is when the tide began to turn! BTW.....For a few years there we were also menaced by a conflict with another "Axis Power"......Japan in the Western Theatre! We were fighting TWO fronts half a world apart and half of the soldiers in Euorope fighting Germany & Italy were using U.S manufactured weapons!;)

China should be the one issuing across the board apologies to all civilized nations where basic human rights and life are appreciated. They have in the past starved millions of their own people to death due to communistic arrogance, conducted grossly inhumane experiments on human POWs, euthanize babies after birth, shoot peacefully demonstrating students, force sterilization on women, and the list goes on with inumerable less well known human rights violations. And in light of these events alone they still believe they deserve to host the Olympics. Am I the only one who has seen the tapes of government officials telling the people how to act so they will have a better chance of hosting the games? If you are civilized and respectful your government should not have to tell you how to ACT (emphasis on act because their charades had Clinton suckered in to naming China our strategic partner in the global economy)that way so the rest of the world will be comfortable around you. One hot shot pilot dies and theys start whining like spoiled children.

This happen because they have been at war for 15yr(ww2 and nationalist and communist war) the lack of food is expect, it is not about arrogance.

," conducted grossly inhumane experiments on human POWs,"
give some fact, the only Asia country that have know to do that is Japan, and they did it to civilian too.

"euthanize babies after birth, "

It's call controlling Population bomb, say whatever you want, but when the population bomb went off in china, all you going to do is laught and say they should done something like what they do now to control population bomb.

"shoot peacefully demonstrating students,"
You don't know 90% of the story, all you know is what western media tell you.
basicly when large even like that, there will be bad apple try to sell drug, provote peopel to riots, so they can doing some stealing and make some money. By the way, wanna take a chance on questing who give those student money to go to capital? hint: something indirectly point at U.S
why would u.s do that? guest who is coming at china at the time? the leader of Russia, and try to make the Russia see China is unstable country and since russia is beside china, it is not a good idea to sell weapon to china.

speaking of human right
you think U.S past that test? NO
just ask the aboriginal, U.S are the worse in history of in voitation human rights.
