I wonder if any of the responders follow the notion that Earth is the center of the Universe and logically, therefore, conclude that the Sun orbits Earth, ergo, a trick question.

The entire American mainstream, entertainment, media culture glorifies stupidity and ignorance. It simply isn't "cool" in the mainstream to think critically or be scientific. And that's just the media, not even including religion(it same tendency as media to make people think irrationally). Unfortunately those two reach nearly every nook and cranny of American society, so it's really no surprise. The good news is that things are trending in the right direction, just slowly.
