"The new fuss film LORD OF THE RINGS: THE TWO TOWERS has been leaked on to the Internet, it was claimed on Sunday -- more than 4 months before its release.

In a stunning slap at Hollywood and its ongoing copyright battle with digital swappers, Internet users boldly began trading copies of the latest RINGS on Sunday.

But one AOLTIMEWARNER executive expressed serious doubt that a file is in play.

"I have serious question about this, I am not sure we even have a finished product yet!" said the executive from New York. "I don't know what this is, but if it is the movie, or any portion of the movie, we will impose strict criminal penalties against anyone and everyone that downloads it!"

While the movie's distributor has no legitimate report of a leak, file traders were convinced they had the real movie, which is set for release in December.

Some prereleases that have hit the net recently include the first 3 episodes of the new SOPRANOS season and DVD rips of STAR WARS Episode 2 and SPIDERMAN.

I heard about this 2 weeks ago. A certain group had it then, but it's finally been leaked out. According to Kami they're still doing special effects so the best it could be is a workprint.

Agreed.

How could someone watch a movie that's going to be one of the best trilogies evar on their computer and enjoy it? You've gotta go to the theater to get the full affect.

Yeah it can't be finished guys. Just a no-no. For one they were still doing some re-shoots at the beginning of the summer, and they fully intend on working on it to the very last minute when New Line wants the final print in their hands (sometime in november).

It depends on the movie/person. Blair Witch is just as good on TV/computer because of the way it was shot. A friend of mine does not really care about going to the theaters and is happy watching most things on the computer/TV.

Could be an early version??? If so, I imagine you might get to see some scenes that were/will be cut...

Course, this is all assuming that it is indeed an actual leak...

yeah I agree... I felt the same way about Star Wars: AOTC. I had a hard disc copy offerd to me a couple days before the release but its really not worth it. THe quality can't be all that great and it just kinda ruins it

Kami umm dood, they finished filming 2 years ago, the entire trilligy was shot then, there have been no reshoots sense, special effects and editing of all the movies happened at the same time aswell, they have been done for about 8 months now, in other words all the movies are done locked in a vault at the bottem of the ocean. they arn't working on SFX they arn't editing, their done. what they are working on now is some marketing material, such as special editions and directors cuts, and putting together the print material to go with it. I've got some friends who work / worked on the project and all this comes from them. as for the movie being leaked, it could be...but I dought it...they probably got their hands on one of the unrefined copies or reels that were thrown out, it happens, oh well.

<conspiracy mode>

The studio "leaked" it in order to strengthen their case against P2P.

</conspiracy mode>

It's what I would do if I were them.

I have been aware of people who have had Unedited rips that have the time index in the corner, and so on and so forth. and this was several months ago.

completely and totaly unedited. so SpFX

I'm still gonna wait and see it in the theaters.

Even if it were the entire film leaked, you would just be cheating yourself watching it on a 19" monitor. I wouldn't care if I had the final DVD in my hands right now. Nothing is stopping me from seeing the first time the right way.

Just to get nit-picky, if it were "completely and totally unedited", then it wouldn't be the movie. By definition, if the dailies have been combined such that scenes have been picked out and put together to tell the story, then it's been edited.

But you're point is taken no SFX and no sweetening.

Narzy how dare you insult my LOTR knowledge. You DO know how obsessed I am right?

These "friends of yours" live in some fantasy world :p

Yes they finished filming a while ago.
Yes there have been reshoots this year (my god Peter Jackson has said this in NUMEROUS interviews)
Yes they are doing all post-production in between each film (special effects, etc.) - as for editing, they continue to change it til last minute. Hell, look at how many scenes from the previous trailers didn't make it into the final film.
Yes you are totally wrong. :p

I think you guys underestimate the quality of SVCD's these days. The Star Wars EpII was a DVDrip and those look every bit as good the the orig DVD. If lotr2 is a DVDrip it will look better on my projector than it will in the theater in Dec. Now if only they could solve the surround sound mess it would be perfect.

Well, they don't have any worries from me. There are certain movies which must be seen on the big screen and this is one of them.
