Sounds like there was some trickery involved, such as a few Fallout fanboys downloading many times to generate some controversy... or even Bethesda doing it to pimp Fallout 3. I mean, that's 507 times more downloads than #2.

Oh, they're coming out with Fallout3? Interesting, I thought Fallout Tactics was #3.

3 is its own game, but I had heard it got canned. This was a couple of years ago, though.

Never heard of it.

Never heard of the greatest cRPG ever made? Shens.

I've heard of it (as in heard of or read "Fallout" and "videogame" in the same sentence somewhere), but don't know anything about it. Does that count?

Interplay's development of Fallout 3 (referred to as "The Van Buren Project) started in 2003 and did get canned, although I loved the concept art. They apparently couldn't sustain development and they ended up licensing the creation of Fallout 3 (with options for sequels 4 & 5 thereof) to Bethesda Software.

Bethesda Software doesn't even have the it listed in their "in development" sections to date, but reportedly it's been in full production phase since last year, and they drop hints about it, and have displayed stuff like the E3 poster.

GoGamer.com has the Fallout collection (1, 2, tactics) for $14.90 in the latest Madness sale.

If you can't stand 640x480 isometric 2D graphics then run away, but FO1-2 are still 2 of the 5 best PC RPGs of all time (along with Wasteland, Planescape: Torment, and Baldur's Gate 2 + TOB).

Fallout Tactics is weaker, but still fun if you enjoy turn-based tactical combat with guns instead of swords and spells.

Seriously, I doubt that one fifth of the planet even knows what torrents are, much less what an ISO is or how to burn it. To say nothing of actually knowing about Fallout or wanting to play it.

Having said that: even with the BS I would not doubt that lots of leet haxors would want to play it. Its an excellent game and almost impossible to find by normal means.
I remember when I ripped an ISO of Moo2 and put it up. Had over a hundred uploads in the first week and dozens of Thank-You notes.
People do love the classics.

Older games are still very popular. If you look at some of the first modules that were released for NWN1 and NWN2, Pool of Radiance was almost the first to be released.
