The truth behind the Antec Sonata II's cooling duct.

All temps at idle...my room is a sweltering 85 F right now 🙁

Temperatures without duct:
CPU: 125 F
GPU: 58 C

Temperatures with duct going to CPU with GPU slot open:
CPU: 123 F
GPU: 59 C

Temperatures with duct going to CPU, GPU slot CLOSED:
CPU: 114 F
GPU: 60 C

So as you can see, the duct actually helps a lot in my situation, but not with the GPU port open. By the way, how are my temperatures? My system is A64 3200+ and 7800GTX.

Edit: This is all with stock cooling (stock HSF, stock 120mm case fan @ medium setting, stock 7800GTX HSF). How much of an OC do you guys think I can get out of my processor with stock cooling?

^ Yeesh.

52C
50C
45C

45C is fine. What is it under load?

As much as you can without touching the voltage. Depends on your chip and core - with the stock voltage (I wouldn't increase it with the retail HSF) maybe 100-200Mhz stable, maybe none

Are those load or idle temps? If they are idle temps, it seems a bit high, but seeing as your room is so hot, it probably isn't.

all i have to say is that all mobo temps should be taken with a cube of salt. they are not to be trusted unless you are doing it with a temp probe on a multimeter. they are neither accurate of precise

nice to know that the duct actually lowers temp by quite a bit. I wonder how the duct (if it will fit) will work with XP-90

It's pretty adjustable on two axes meaning you can adjust it down towards the CPU and side to side across it. I have it lowered as far as possible and it's still about .5" away from the top of my stock HSF. I can probably raise it away from it about 1-2" if I want.
