The truth behind California

california isn't really much better or worse than most other states, problem is californians don't like to think that (beautiful state though)

on the other hand, whipping out the race card, may as well have been citing statistics from mexico

Many of the places listed in that "top 100" are small farm towns, with a high immigrant popluation. Not surprising at all to see low educational numbers there. Some don't even exist...for example, #92, West Modesto, California. Just a part of the town, NOT an actual town or city. I'm sure if you take a particular neighborhood, and isolate it for statistics, you'll find similar trends in any city.

Exactly..if you go through the list you will fiind most of the cities listed from California are very heavyily populated by mexican immigrants such as farm workers.

One city listed castroville, calif has a population of apprx 7,000 with over 90% of the school age children belonging to migrant farm workers....

nuff said!!

So we should somehow be shocked that the two largest states with the two largest populations (i.e. California and Texas) also have the greatest number of lesser educated people? And to boot, both of these states have more illegal immigrants than the total population of other states - this is surprising how?

Also, as BoomerD mentioned, they did a bang up job of doing select segments of cities, e.g. East LA.

By the same token, what they list as Stanford Kahleeforneeya, is actually Palo Alto. Stanford is a university that happens to be located there...Like I said, you can break a neighborhood out of any city to make the stats say whaever you want...

😕

Personally I think you gotta be pretty nuts to live in a place that is so cold you can die from exposure.

So is the region of "Stanford, CA" the group of professors and their kids? Well, gee...I wonder why they all are well educated...

You know, with the undergrads at Stanford that don't yet have their Bachelor's, I'm wondering how they still managed to make it to the top.

Um. What they appear to have done is broken down the worst suburbs of L.A. into individual zipcodes and then listed them. I bank in Maywood for example but it's pretty much only a few square miles big. I'm not even sure they have a school. The average age is sub 30. I'd bet money that of the 30,000 that live there, over half are illegal aliens who can't speak english.

All these cities are just hispanic communities with people in their 20's. They're fresh off the boat. You shouldn't expect much. Give them a few generations.

Hey, I have a question for you Californians if you're so smart and so superior in terms cultural diversity than us midwesterners:

Why have you driven your home real estate values through the f---ing stratosphere with inflated home costs that no 'fresh off the boat' foreigner can afford? That along with having one of the highest SUV ownership rates in the nation along with the most enviro-whiners. Might as well take the bear off your flag and replace it with two McMansions and a Ford Explorer. 🙂

Huntsville Alabama seems to duke it out with San Jose in terms of 'grey matter' ranking on all these lists. Personally, I'd rather live in 'Bama then watch my life flash before my eyes at 10x normal speed on the West Coast for no reason.

You want some cheese to go with that Whine? 😛 You sound jealous.

By the way, the fresh off the boat people do buy homes. They're driving up the costs in the ghetto and changing the demographics of what used to be black to now being hispanic. Compton is a good example of that. Homes in Compton now go for $400,000.

I worked in Compton for a year and change. Great place. There were 3 murders in the first two weeks I worked there. Two were next door and one was on the corner. Don't stay there after dark unless you want to pick up a crack whore. I guess if you're there for the cock fights though you might as well pick up a couple crack whores with your winnings though.

If it makes you feel any better I'm starting to think that I might not buy a home yet. Everything I've been reading leads me to believe that prices are going to drop in the next couple of years.

I've also seen a huge, and I mean HUGE, amount of Hybrids on the road here. It's ridiculous sometimes since you'll drive by a couple that are the same model AND same color driving next to each other on the freeway. Looks like a commercial.

that sounds exactly like what a person who's never lived in california would say.. interesting...

it's not like the people living here are the ones deciding the prices of houses.. that would be the people who are willing to pay the crazy amounts for the houses.. why would they do that? because this state kicks ass... plain and simple..
