Wonder what kind of rag you use to wipe your mouth out with.

You must have missed my Toyota lemon thread in the car forum.

It was more expensive to repair it than to keep driving it.

My dad always swore by Toyota as reliable but facts are American cars have cheaper replacement parts.

And there was this parasitic draw that couldn't be solved by the dealership or any mechanic.. with me having 11 dead batteries and 4 dead alternators. (At least if I remember the numbers correctly) Pre-owned guarantees my ass.

Also the toyota sensors that cost over a $140 needing changing every few years while I drive less than 500mph a year in NYC.

I replaced it with a rusty beater (Ford Explorer). It's not as nice as the Toyota to drive.. but it has 2 things I like.. it's cheaper to repair and Ford really knows seats.

Sitting in one feels like sitting in a recliner compared to the Toyota bucket seat which is awesome for NYC traffic.

Now if I could only somehow figure out how to make Fords not rust like crazy..

hot take, but Toyotas love their maintenance. and only with OEM parts IMO. Neglect them or use shitty parts and it's a snowball of one problem chasing another. I've done all the work on my RX350 and other toyota / lexus vehicles so i always justify the price differential going with OE parts.
and honestly it's the same with hondas too. I think people just get away with neglecting them more than other brands.

Facts!

And now you have tariffs on imported OEM parts!

I follow a lot of automotive groups, and there are a lot of sketchy third party parts in the channel now, for all brands. So sticking OEM or higher end aftermarket may be necessary.

As far as brand reliability. I still look at overall reporting and not any individual users experience, and Toyota is always near the top of the charts.

That said I would pay attention to design complexity. I'd expect a lot more long term reliability out of a 5th generation 4Runner, with a low stress Naturally Aspirated V6, and 5 speed automatic, than I would from the 6th generation with a Turbo-4, 8-speed, and hybrid system. I'd also go back to the old rule of thumb about not buying first year models.

I have heard only use Toyota parts from the YT car wizard channel…

Just bought a new rav4 yesterday. Was a rushed purchase because my car ..2014 x5 broke down and was mechanically totaled… coolant line to the turbo… terrible job but car had 200k miles on it so I was bummed.. cause I loved that car. I never found BMW part to be overly expensive.. but I found a mechanic that works on the side that did great work at a great price. If you are in north Metro Detroit and need a German auto mechanic lemme know and I will get u his contact

I rented a brand new Toyota Camry about a year ago while having work done on my existing car. I'm thinking, this is the main money maker product that been around for years, I get a chance to see how nice a car they are. Well, cheesy plastic was a big theme, with, is this a real car, or just a toy car. Of course I been driving a much more substantial car (Grand Cherokee), so maybe the toy car feel is just not what I'm used to. I loved my Plymouth Horizon, way back when. Barely spent any time in the shop.

parts in general have increased astronomically. I think aftermarket parts have gone

Wizard and thecarcarenut, a very toyota focused channel that does exceptional reviews of other car makes too.

But also from my own personal experience as well. You'll never regret going oem. Aftermarket is 50/50 . I've ended up having to redo the job after using an aftermarket part way too many times than not that I'm not even gonna bother anymore unless the community says without a doubt the part it's just as good or better than oe, which is usually never the case

The whole car/repair business is not built on a sustainable model anymore. Just keep cranking out cars with way too much expensive fragile technology, that cost multiple year car payments to repair. Of course they will blame the federal requirements.

having worked in the auto business, i will say, some things *DO* cost a lot of money to fix on account of the parts themselves being expensive. emissions equipment especially is pretty high tech and has a very challenging service environment.

for older vehicles, the demand for spare parts might be so low that you can't get anywhere close to a high-volume discount anymore. or the original supplier has gone out of business, and now you need to find someone new to make whatever part, and oh by the way the engineer(s) that designed and tested that part are no longer around either.

I learned to drive stick in a dodge omni. It had the mitsubishi 2.2L with a 5 speed long throw shifter. It was so much fun to drive. It was like driving a go cart.

When SCOTUS rules the tariffs are illegal I better be able to file for refunds.

I could see them doing a big FU to America on the backhand via the process they called for when they said the NIH funding couldn't be blocked - force people to individually go through the Federal Court of Claims (even though it wouldn't be the right venue or really fix the harm csused).

I don't really expect to ever see that money. But there are going to be soooo many super pissed off people who hear the tariffs are illegal and have paid a lot more than me who are going to want it back.

I really can't see the Supreme Court going against Trump on this...

Every one should goto small claims court

I may just do that

A little hole in the supply chain can occasionally be found where a certain supplier to the OEM's will sell the same parts at a decent price point under some other brand name. I do some digging around to find such deals and have found it worth the effort, albeit not a guaranteed one.

Translation: the huge inventory build up is almost expended and prices paid by Americans on anything coming into the country will rise drastically as sellers are forced to hike to recover increased costs. You are welcome!

If he wants to keep running into the public opinion wood chipper on this then god bless him and we'll end up with Blexas and Blaska next year.
