Federal taxes are mostly income taxes and they are paid individually so the state can't really do that.

That being said NYS COULD withhold all taxes paid by state and local governments and their employees, which would still be significant.

Yes though, more broadly this is raising the question of what states are supposed to do when the federal government is no longer even attempting to act as a neutral steward. If the government is taxing you and then withholding legally mandated spending from you that's a fundamental breach of the compact the Constitution was based on.

I think it's been fudged and inflation is higher than they are making it seem.

Yes, CPI was largely correct. Now that Trump has purged BLS who knows where it will go but otherwise yes.

Again, the whole idea that the government is hiding real inflation is a conspiracy theory that goes back decades and it's been proven false over and over.

The fed government does have to accept the result.. but just like last jan 6th.. it doesn't have to accept them if they calvinball and say congress not in session due to shutdown.

I mean just look at present situation.. they still haven't sworn in that new rep since they don't want to release Epstein files. She's been waiting what.. a month??

You shouldn't make it easier for Republicans to ignore the will of the people by giving them the out before they even try do it (even if we know deep down they may try). It's good to have standards and demand that public officials meet them.

That wouldn’t work as there is no house after an election so there would be no one to shut it down or make the claim.
