Even though this is a catastrophe it is sort of funny how Trump unilaterally decided to start a global trade war that he lost in less than a month.
In the startup world they do have the saying, 'fail fast, fail cheap'... if he backs down fast enough, maybe America will dodge a recession.

It’s too late. Even if he came out this afternoon and returned everything to how it was the damage is done. Also, even if he said that would you have any faith in that holding for even the rest of the day, much less for years into the future? Of course not.

The world now recognizes that the long held view of American stability is at the whim of one person. If Trump dies tomorrow the fundamental fact of our instability remains.

Our best bet would be for Trump to be removed from office and to have these powers removed from the presidency but neither of those things seem to be in the cards.

He won’t, and we are already fucked. He has trashed the reputation of the US, our parters will not trust us as long as he is around.
Forget ‘as long as he is around’. Elect a sane person tomorrow and the question will still be ‘okay you’re sane but we are at max four years away from the risk of another crazy person so why make a deal with you?’

Also at what point do people start talking more about the role Trump’s dementia is playing here?

Trump’s preexisting insanity/stupidity is a known factor—it’s what people expect and they don’t think it will affect them. However, dementia has a habit of getting worse over time and the dude keeps hitting higher echelons of stupidity with every passing moment.

Once people start tangibly feeling the abject misery of his actions I suspect those discussions will become a lot more common. Trump 2.0 is shaping up to be a waaaaay different animal than Trump 1.0.

Is there a website that lists which tariffs are currently in effect on which products/countries, and when newly enacted tariffs will go into effect?

Funny not funny story.

Last week my wife ordered a pair of shoes for work online. Monday she got notification they had shipped, from China. The company will not respond to her questions about potential tariffs.

Definitely. I was recently reminded of when he met with business leaders last summer and they came away from the meeting talking about how his brain was just pudding and he couldn’t focus or maintain coherent strings of thought.

The covfefe dotard is again shaming Zelensky for refusing to bend over and take it with no lube in negotiations with Russia, lol.

"OK heres the deal-- Putin, you get everything you illegally captured from the invasion and despite killing hundreds of thousands of Ukrainian military and civilians, destroying billions of dollars of infrastructure, and costing the US billions in terms of Ukraine weapons and intelligence support, plus a guarantee of Ukraine not joining NATO, plus the Crimean peninsula that you illegally annexed in 2014. If you want anything more please let me know.

OK now. Zelensky, you get to take it up the ass with no lube and give up all Russian occupied territory, get publicly insulted by myself and my eyeshadow wearing VP, AND promise the US 500 billion dollars of mineral rights. What a great deal for you, such a great deal. No?! Why are you being so difficult you pathetic loser?! " - Trump April 2024

Seems the farmers aren't so innocent. They profited off the New Deal which lasted till 2004.

And they have generations of wealth funded by the US taxpayers but they want the bailouts since stuff is hard now.

Most likely they'll still grow soybeans which have no export market thanks to Trump and come begging for a bailout again rather than actually growing what will sell in the post MAGA tariff world!

The press needs to do a better job of covering the tariffs. I know it's changing by the moment but NYT needs to do one of those interactive stories where you scroll and it should show examples of household items, what the price was before tariffs, and what the price would be now with the tariffs, and whether or not any of those items are made in the U.S.

When CEOs walked into the White House on Monday, and told Trump that store shelves would be empty (Of overseas products) in two weeks.
No change in policy is going to prevent that. Right? Pretty sure this is destined to occur at this point due to the TIME it takes to ship products. They were talking about missed shipments due to the chaos and insanity at the White House.

Which I remind you, is already ILLEGAL. Tariffs, as a tax on the American people, is Congress's responsibility. This is supposed to be done slow and deliberately through legislation. Only Congress is happy to sit back and cease to exist.

Yes, sailings from China have collapsed. The last slug of front running has already arrived at US ports and been unloaded. Nothing in the pipe now so shortages will start to show in the coming weeks depending on each company's inventory. Even if Trump canceled the tariffs today the lag involved from production to shelf makes this unavoidable.

14 to 40 days to get here depending on ship size and weather!

No one is shipping anything even if Donny cancels the tariffs today, cuz congress is not doing its job and Donnie can change mind at the flip of a coin.

Honestly at this point I say Good!
He was very clear about this and he was elected by a clear margin voters need to understand elections have consequences. Bring on the pain.

Exactly. It takes roughly a month to get across the Pacific and if you order something today the price you have to pay when it arrives could be radically different.

When that happens you're stuck holding the bag. You either pay way more than you budgeted for or you refuse delivery and eat the cost of the order. Either way is ruinous to a business.
