Since Wednesday is my nephew's birthday I figured I'd go grab some discount Easter candy at Walmart to throw in with his presents and saw the same Lego set I bought for $60 a month ago is now $80 thanks to the Dotard Tax. I hope he doesn't ask for Legos for Christmas lol.

You have it backwards…Santa hates Trump and is trying to make him look bad by passing the tariffs on to customers instead of absorbing the increases like a good, respectful ‘Murican company should do.

I'm caught in 2 minds.. do I trust the S&P 500 to recover or do I put it somewhere safer?

We've never had a government actively try to destroy America and S&P 500 was always based in the belief of America.

There aren't going to be toys to buy if this keeps up. Yesterday at Easter one of the guests is an importer. Almost all of their imports are from China. They have big retail clients in the us, they are quite wealthy. Nothing from China is making it here if the tariffs stay anywhere near where they are. Already this month has had more blank ships than the first month Covid kicked in 2020.
 
Christofascism is exactly whats taking place with Trump and the far right MAGAts at this time. This is very disturbing and intriguing for me as a catholic Christian, and it highlights the still-apparently huge gulf in philosophies and beliefs of evangelical protestants and catholics. From the very get go, I found the shameful defending of Trump and many of his most ardent supporters' disgraceful rhetoric and actions to be the antithesis of the very words attributed to Christ himself in the bible. Much, indeed most, of this "defense of Trump no matter what" comes from radical evangelical protestant "Christians" such as Mike Johnson, MTG, and others, with a few notable exceptions like JD Vance (who maybe not so ironically was raised as an evangelical protestant but converted to catholicism later in life), all of whom seem to look to Trump as some sort of god-king figure.

Below are a couple of very interesting articles on Christofascism that seem to perfectly describe what is currently happening.

Did you not spend the ENTIRE PAST DECADE listening to Foxnews and Newsmax telling you that Obama killed the economy and Trump raised it from the dead for a glorious 4 years starting in 2017?
Have you NEVER heard the MAGA gospel preached by the faithful zealots?

Their propaganda lies and steals credit for Obama's steady hand and great economy. Trump managed to win the election just as it was peaking. They don't care who built it. They have what they need to steal and propagandize it. Once you realize that, the foundation of their narrative, perhaps you can fill in the blanks for how they wrote the rest of the scripture.

I call it the Church of MAGA.... FOR A REASON. Their alt-reality knows no bounds. It is to serve their power grabbing agenda and that requires lies about how amazing and glorious DEAR LEADER is. You ask any of the faithful, any of the MAGA zealots. Those lies are FACTS. Their truth is that the God Emperor is amazing. Cheeto Jesus can do no wrong. And none of them will ever tell you that he did anything wrong. The group-think binds them together and they use it to draw in more rubes. Anyone neutral and or dumb enough to fall for their story.
