The only positive thing of all this, and it's not actually positive, is that China is targeting good produced by Trump voting regions. I hope Mexico and Canada do the same

I know the first tranche of tariffs on $30B worth of imports to Canada are specifically targeted at Trump voting America. For example distillers in KY and IN probably contemplating eating a gun, especially with EU tariffs probably coming 4/2.

I have to admit that I find a certain satisfaction that Trump’s war on drugs from Canada will result in pain for American drug dealers selling to Canada.

All those years of exploding bourbon popularity outside the US being flushed down the drain. But they wanted to FA and vote GOP, so now they are going to FO.

Not turning it off yet but slapping a 25% duty on the export will get attention. If Quebec and Alberta do similarly for their energy exports we're gonna feel that for sure.

I feel like this is a better solution than turning off the supply. Its harder to frame this as Canada being unreasonable as they are just doing the same thing to the US as the US already did to them.

Hey, farmers! Get fucked!

I "think" that he's trying to say that there’ll be tariffs on agricultural imports, which will, in his mind - increase farmers competitiveness in the domestic market.

Of course, there’s going to be countervailing duties imposed by other countries that are going to hurt their competitiveness in export markets, and on the whole it’ll be a net harm to agriculture. Have "fun" guys! lol!

We grow so much more food than we could ever eat. Get ready for prices on grains to crater. I'm sure they'll have fun with that.

I think we should always strive to do good for citizens, even when many vote against our self interests.

However, what do you think about Dems (potentially) saving Trump’s ass over tariffs against MX and CA?
I don't think it's so much as saving Trump from himself as sowing division within the GOP.

If Republicans break from Trump, you can play up the intraparty fighting. If they don't, you can play up how Republicans hate every day Americans and are raising taxes through the Trump tariffs.

You mean the 25% sales tax that the Republicans imposed on Americans in order to pay for tax cuts for foreign billionaires like Musk, that tax?

I wish Democratic leadership had the ability to speak like some Canadian leaders are.

It's good to see political leaders with balls and plain language. It's just too bad we don't have them in our opposition party here.

Representative Crockett is doing alright in my book.

Oh I love her. But she is not Democratic Leadership - I included that word in there for a reason. There are some great Dems out there like Chris Murphy, Crockett, AOC, and some others -

zero of the leadership though. They are not coordinating anything good.

Wait until they find out much of the USAID donations were surplus supplies we used to regulate the S : D formula for tons of products.
Yep. USAID was buying surplus agricultural products that became food aid around the world. It was a subsidy for US agriculture to help keep a stable food supply (which is a good thing!), aid for other people in the world so that they didn't starve to death, and a way to project American soft power to provide both stability for various markets and push our ideas. And all done at the cost of less than like half a percent of federal expenditures.
