Everything in the article is very true.

GM is in very serious trouble, without gutting large portions of the company and selling off entire divisions (hummer, buick, and pontiac have been named by board members), on top of massive cuts of worker benefits, wages, and programs across the board, from management down, GMs operating costs are just too high to stay afloat with only a quarter of the US marketshare.

Saab is first, and i do NOT see pontiac going. buick eh. but they are still introducing a LOT of new buicks.

Pontiac saw an 80% sales loss last year.

because the only 5 cars they have that are anywhere near new are the G6, Solstice, Torrent, Vibe, GTO. there other B&B cars died. Grand-Am, Sunfire, Grandprix, Bonneville. all dont have anywhere to go anymore.

(i forget which one the G6 replaced)

nice long article, and can't say I disagree with anything in there.... but that does not address the root of all this mess

I drove a GM car three times in the last 10 years... the last time in 2001; and each one left me wondering how anyone could make such shoddy products.... you would have to be blind to not notice the difference in quality between a Buick Regal and a Toyota Camry...

So while they lost market share to the Japanese for about 20 years in a row, what did they come up with? bigger, more powerful V8's, that's what...

Sure, the whole healthcare cost is a huge messy legacy, but that does not take away from the fact that they made poor, shoddy cars for far too long and people can't be bothered to even try anything that says GM anymore. You could write them a treasury check for the healthcare cost, and they would still be heading towards bankruptcy

Bankruptcy isn't going to occur next week. But down the road--say, past 2006 --its probability is high.

That's my favorite part of the article MIKEMIKE.

I thought you said GM isn't going to file for bankruptcy?

i have, and i will still stand by that bankruptcy is the LAST resort for GM. its not going to happen quickly like some think if it happens its in the future. GM REALLY does NOT want to file for it...

So you're saying bankruptcy is the last resort and not their first choice? Captain Obvious, is that you?

I actually kind of like buffalo meat. I can kind of tell the difference between it and regular "cow" meat, but the health benefits make it a great choice.

What year are you living in? 1988?

GMC makes entry level luxury vehicles. It's a step above Chevy.

Many people out there don't want a Chevy truck. It might not fit their personality. They still want a truck, but they want something a bit classier.

You need to learn a bit more about GMC before you spout off such idiocy.

I know a GM bankruptcy would be huge, but one part of me want them to file so they can really screw the UAW, and emerge as a better company

Same thing as what?

What is the GMC Envoy the same thing as?

What is the Denali versions of their cars the same as?

What? Tell me.

They used to be the same, like 10 YEARS AGO. Learn a bit about the company and the difference before you spout off such ignorance.
