The Town (2010) deserves its own thread.

Rec'd from the review thread, I just finished watching it.

Holy shit, I don't ever remember hearing about this film in 2010. How did a film this good not get a bigger mainstream attention?

It's a heist with a dash of solid drama thrown in. I was weary of seeing Affleck again doing romance, but that was quickly forgotten as the plot and acting is excellent. It's also a big plus the film takes place in Boston area.

Fucking great movie all around, it's similar likes of Gone Baby Gone, The Departed, and Boondock Saints.

Uhhh, yeah, it got plenty of talk. I loved the film, I think Affleck is a great director and I even thought Blake Lively did a good job acting like a Southie. (she sure didn't make the movie look any worse...) Certainly gave Jeremy Renner a little more attention on top of what he had already garnered for "The Hurt Locker."

Now I want to watch "The Town" again...maybe soon...

A real cheesy lame ass 'predictable' ending would be either

Affleck runs away with the chick successfully/chick reunite with him later in FL or everyone dying. It was neither and good to see just him escaping.

I thought it was a nice touch when the girl said, "We can meet like one of my sunny days." and that was their final conversation of their relationship.

Because it wasn't predictable, it kept me in suspense throughout the movie. I love that feeling when the movie can manage to captivate you.

Yea he turned me off quite badly from Good Will Hunting and fucking Pearl Harbor.

I must admit it was refreshing to see him again and he was decent.

I forgot what 2010 was all about.

The top 3 most critics agree are The Social Network, Black Swan, and King's Speech. I agree with these 3. I'm glad that garbage Inception is nowhere near there.

The Town was GREAT, but sort of lacks that particular epic feel these 3 have.

As others have said, it got a lot of press and raves. My expectations were quite high when I saw it. The movie failed to deliver. I thought it had some nice bits, but other bits that really dragged for an overall grade of "meh."

The movie has some solid scenes, but overall it was pretty weak. I didn't like the casting choice for their honorable FBI/detective "adversary". Cheesy dude. The movie sometimes felt a bit like a vanity piece for Affleck. It was also pretty predictable....but it was filmed in Boston. So, yeah. :awe:

IIRC the original ending from the book (it was based on one) that they also originally filmed was (spoiler I guess?)

that Ben's character gets mortally wounded in the gunfight and dies in the chick's apartment

, but the test audiences didn't like it and so they reshot it to end that way.

Anyway, I liked it too. Wouldn't put it on my list of fantastic movies, but it was very good, and gave me more respect for Ben. Need to go watch Gone Baby Gone one of these days, I've heard it's good too.

I thought it was alright, IMHO, it's missing a final dramatic scene, the fenway scene just wasn't exciting enough to bring the movie to a dramatic ending.
