The Touchpad is already on Woot $379

Lol. HP giving up already?

I'm tempted but I already have 3 tablets in my home. Sorry HP and other tablet makers. Looks like your pain is just beginning.

actually the official retail price now is $399 after instant rebate. i laughed when i saw that at the end of the manny pacquiao ad on tv. its only been out a few weeks and they already had to drop the price by $100?? actually im not surprised, they set up a display island at best buy with 6 demos and every time i go there there is no one even looking at them. webos is dead, there isnt a market for more than ipad and a few android manufacturers. 1024x768? no thanks

Bah this sucks. It's sad to see a great OS destroyed by poor hardware and bad timing.

Also, did anybody expect HP to take WebOS and turn it from a loser into something that can compete against Apple, Google, RIM, and MS?

I love when people assume that a price drop indicates "giving up" on a product. It means that HP is trying to push as many out as they can to build market share and word of mouth on the product.

All of the early reviews said there were some speed issues that needed to be fixed (which were in the recent update) and the price was too high (hence the "instant rebate" sales and other offers)..

It's actually a GREAT tablet. Much friendlier to use than Android tablets in my opinion.

If only they'd be so kind as to extend that rebate to the people who suffered through using the device before the update..

I have said it a million times before...WebOS is dead. it's a shame because WebOS is really nice, but it's dead

It depends... I am not giving apple $500 for something that costed $169 to build. There is no guarantee that apple will continue to find debt slaves to purchase their products. At some point the competition has to take over. If webOS can run android apps then it could do fine.

Woot is where products go to die when manufacturers want to get rid of stock. Can you get good stuff there? Absolutely, but it usually takes a year or more for good products to get there, not one month after launch as is the case with the TP. Amazingly HP is failing harder with webOS than Palm did.

You don't drop the price $100 1 month after launch if things are going well. The bottom line is, this is a sure sign that the Touchpad is not selling the way HP expected it to.

I'm glad to see that HP is doing something to push the product. Hopefully my employer will be purchasing one for me soon.

Yes you have. It seems to be your only contribution to WebOS threads. Why do you waste so much time posting in threads about an OS that is dead?

If you want a good laugh, check out the precentral boards. Talk about desperation and head in the sand, it is sad but hilarious at the same time

not really. and i wouldnt say RIM or MS are competing right now. windows phone 7 isnt doing stellar and neither is anything RIM has out right now.

id really like to see google put more polish into android, seems like they are getting there, but slowly. *Shrug* oh well.

It's a $399 tablet that's $379 on woot? maybe they're just trying to get it out there by giving it $20 off and selling it thru woot.. I'm sure it's sell poorly, but I wouldn't call it completely dead yet. That annoying singer on my TV isn't gone so they're still trying something...

This year has made it official:

There IS a market for non-Apple tablets, but they have to be cheaper than the iPad to compete.

Maybe webOS will be good once they Pre 7 comes out with the same form factor and hardware as the original Pre. /sarcasm

Why they don't release a 4 inch phone with a form factor like an android HTC or samsung is beyond me. That is the only thing people wanted in a webOS phone.

is there really a market for anything other than ipad? if you have a desktop and a cellphone and maybe a laptop do you really need a tablet?

$300. wow hp really got taught a lesson. you can bet they wont be stupid enough to dump any more money into this dog. rip webos
