I have own a shredder for as long as I remember, all paperwork with any kind of personal information goes in it...

Now I should burn the shredded bits too just to be safe

I get credit card "checks" in the mail at least once a month from one of my credit card companies. I always worry that some lowlife could get ahold of them and buy something. It just doesn't seem right that I should have to shred something that is totally unsolicited..especially the credit card apps.

WTH. I hate credit card companies. They are all about making money off of debt. What a bunch of vultures.

That's hardly their main source of income. They get a cut of each item you buy using the card, and then there are fees.

I don't do that but when I get one, I shred the actual application, then take the Terms and Conditions sheet and put that back in the reply envelopt and send it back to them.

hahah great. i have a bunch of bricks i can send to them heh. i also like your idea and send back the junk.

i have a shredder. then i take those and burn it (live out in the country wehre it is legal).

I'm going to start stuffing the shredded applications into the return envelopes.

EDIT: Or shredded random crap. Or pron! I'll put unshredded black and white printed pron AND shredded crap in there.

... and on the days mail isn't delivered, they send the offer by courier.

That doesnt make sense. Wouldn't the application require a SS number also?

Which isn't hard for identity theives to get.

They shouldn't have processed that application like that PERIOD.

What's to stop someone from just taking a blank credit card application and filling it out in someone else's name with someone else's SSN? They don't need to steal an application out of your trash to get a credit card in your name.

Late fees and fees off of debt is their main source of income, but the .5-1% off a CC transaction is a lot too.

Sounds like a reasonable protest to me - not the pron & stuff some people are suggesting, just sending back the post-paid envelope and other junk. I used to do it all the time. Make all the junk mail crap actually cost them something. If enough people did it, it might make that type of marketing less attractive.

It's been awhile since I've looked at one in detail, but don't they ussually have your name & address printed on the application?

Yeah, that's why you send them the terms and conditions part in the return envelope. I think it's hilarious that a lot of credit card companies are priniting a "customer I.D. Number" on the return envelope in response to so many people sending them their own junk back. It's so bogus and it makes me laugh everytime I see a grainy printed bar code with what is supposedly a "unique" ID #.

That just tells me that sending them their own crap back is bugging them enough for them to try to stop it. I haven't sent any stuff back lately, but I might start again.

I just tore up one of the many I got, stuffed it into the return envelope along with the torn up outer envelope, and liberally squirted some nasty Fish Sauce in there.

Whee!
