Myths
1. - HIV doesn't cause AIDS.
2. - Because of antiretroviral medications, we no longer need to be concerned about HIV/AIDS.
3. - If you have HIV already and are sexually active, you no longer need to practice safer sex.
4. - You can't contract HIV through oral sex.
5. - You can't get HIV from one sexual encounter.
6. - A woman cannot spread HIV to another woman by having sex with her.
7. - If you are HIV positive but your HIV viral load is undetectable, you cannot spread HIV.
8. - AIDS can be spread by kissing, hugging, or shaking hands.
9. - If you have HIV, you can cure it by having sex with a virgin.
10. - Every individual with HIV will eventually develop AIDS.
I knew a few of these already. #8 should include 'using the same toilet seat' because they harped on that in 7th/8th grade sex ed. The ones I hadn't heard before I had never thought about, in some cases because it just seemed like common sense - for example #9 - what the fuck?
Who remembers that person who thought you could get AIDS through sweat? Wasn't he a doctor or something?
