Nothing can touch the flavor/volume per dollar value it offers.

-Insanely cheap? - check
-Easy to make? - check
-Tastes good? - check
-Healthy? It's not greasy or loaded with fat... so... - check (kinda)
-Did i mention cheap? - check
-Fills you up when you're broke - check

So... as i was saying... Top Ramen FTW!!

(Taxes just ruined me, so i'm just lamenting my little tasty friend)

So post up if top ramen has ever gotten you through a rough patch!

sorry, have to go with the maruchan instant lunch (cup o' noodles) or the asian ramen.

it's probably double the price, but I can find a quarter pretty easily.

It's definitely pretty fattening. 400 calories for just 1 small pack? It was deep fried before it became preserved in that bag.

How many packs do you eat for a meal? 400 calories is pretty low if you have a pack of ramen for dinner. In fact, it would be unhealthily low.

I dont think you guys are getting my point. I can easily eat at least 2 packs for 1 ramen meal, but 800 calories for food with no nutritional value or even any slight significance of protein is pretty fattening. Calories = energy, as I'm sure most of you know that, but it's a real easy weight gainer for anyone who doesnt have a good metabolism.

So yeah, I'm quite aware of how many calories a person should intake for dinner. It'll take about 3 packs to probably get me full. That's 1200 calories with a whole load of sodium. 1200 calories for any single meal is a lot.

Go to your local asian grocery store and discover a whole new ramen world.

Any Beef flavored ramen is good, but nothing beats NISSIN Top Ramen!

For those talking bad about the SODIUM....... Use less of the packet! I always use half and it's great. 1 full packet is way too salty!

Are you kidding? My friend got a bowl of the stuff that had over 2000mg of sodium, well in excess of the daily recommended intake.

Daily recommended intake is a worthless figure. You can alleviate sodium intake by drinking more water. And the "recommended" calorie intake is woefully inadequate for anyone with an active life.

agree with Nissin... the stuff they sell in asian markets, not the US top ramen stuff.

I found a asian foods store here with literally over 100 kinds of ramen. I bought a ton and am currently experimenting to find the best one. I think a few may be nasty, kimchi flavored ramen?

The best Ramen I've had was from South Korea. I don't read Korean so I can't give you a name, but it comes with 3 different packets: 1) the usual flavour packet; 2) a packet of dehydrated carrots, onions, mushroom, and more IIRC; 3) ground hot pepper. It is very spicey and very tasty. They're approx $1 each though, but they are somewhat larger than the cheap stuff.

It's NOT healthy. It has essentially no nutritional value. I agree though, it's cheap and good. I've found something better though; the vegan instant noodles at Trader Joe's in the red and blue boxes. Those are delicious and are actually good for you (but they're $2 a pop instead of a dime - well worth it if you ask me)

jdoggg12, drinking more water in order to try to alleviate a really high sodium intake (even though it doesn't work that way) means you're going to need to ingest more of your other vitamins and minerals. You're just going to piss away most of them if you drink a ton of extra water.

Daily recommended intake is a pretty good figure if you find something that way exceeds it. Excessive sodium is a great way to develop hypertension and heart disease. I don't care if you're drinking gallons of water per day, it's still bad for you.

That makes my brain hurt.....sorry kid, you can't defy thermodynamics.....fat doesn't equal fattening....fat is dense in calories...high calories = fattening.....eat more calories than you burn off an you add mass......

Don't forget that the noodles are deep fried. Most of the fat content is in the noodles themselves even if most of the sodium is in the flavor packet (it's mostly salt)
