I agree that it can be annoying, but I know there are a lot of benefits and reasons for it; I had to do a research paper on DST in high school :awe:

That's the stupidest thing I've ever heard. Farmers don't go by the clock. If they didn't have DST, they would just adjust their working hours to work during the available daylight. It's not like they are bound to a 9-5 deskjob. They work whatever hours gets the job done.

We live in a democracy... so what I say they should do is pass a vote. I bet it would be like 90% in favor of abolishing it. Then pass another vote on what mode we should go to, then change it to that, and keep it there forever, and end this DST crap!

DST does not really serve any purpose. It's still going to be dark when we go to work in the morning (it's just going to get bright an hour early, while at work) and it's still going to be dark when I get home from work. Either way, I need to use lights.

Last week when I left for work it was dark. This morning it was light out when I left for work.

As it gets nearer to Dec 21 this makes less of an impact of course, but at least it gives me an extra 3-4 weeks of morning light. I find the fall switch away from DST greatly improves my mornings. I HATE getting up and getting ready when it's black out, and I always feel like crap.

I always liked winter's darkness. It's dark and nice out, but it's so cold that thugz can't be out thuggin'

You're also less likely to get hassled by homeless people because they all die before December. Last year it was hitting nearly -30C in November; it was weird.

I agree with you absolutely on this issue.
I hate the time change, especially in the spring, cause then I have to wake up an hour earlier every day for like 7 months. Now I finally can wake up at the right time until March, blah!

Something that just occurred to me (which has occurred to many, many people before me, I just happened to realize it this weekend); Daylight Savings Time (or, more appropriately, the Standard Time period from November to March) doesn't make sense in this day and age. When DST was introduced, the car basically didn't exist. Having the sun setting at 4PM wasn't a huge problem. But in today's world where millions of people commute via car to work? Having the sun setting before you get on the road could have a serious impact on traffic accidents. You've worked a nine hour shift, you're tired, and now you can't see anything while you're stuck in traffic? That is a recipe for disaster.

Apparently the US actually studied this back in the 1970s and found that there was a 1.5-2% reduction in traffic fatalities during Daylight Savings Time. That was 35 years ago. We have significantly more traffic now then we did back then (although cars are also a hell of a lot safer). It makes sense to keep Daylight Savings Time as the standard time year-round. Who gives a shit about daylight in the morning? Daylight in the afternoon and evening is more important. And like others have said, farmers don't give a shit about what the clock says, they're governed by the sun regardless. There's no reason to stick with this "let's have the sun set at 4PM" standard any more.
