So when I go to Europe, instead of ordering a pint of lager I have to order a 568ml of lager?

That alone should make imperial volume measurements vastly superior.

When you go to the US and order a pint you would get 473mls, its all very confusing.

no you order either 250ml (or 300ml it varies a bit) or 500ml or 1 liter... it kinda depends on the bar what they have..

but what makes Europe superior, is the fact that you wont be terribly misled by the label claiming it to be beer..

In the UK you order a pint and you get a pint... in other countries you may get 500ml if you ask for a "pint".

Agreed. BELGIUM has the best beer.

America has colored tap water, which on a good day might approach something which an intelligent individual could easily mistake as carbonated piss.

FTFY ^_^

And for the record: I deplore the trend here in the USA to make alcohol taste like anything but... This goes double for all you Zima drinking fhagz.

Yeah I can get behind that, although I do love German / English beer...

Water wasn't the basis for the Fahrenheit scale. (well, initially at least, the boiling point was later used).

And that may be why Celsius makes more sense than Fahrenheit.

The brine being used makes much more sense than people give it credit for. The brine is self stabilizing. Freezing water, on the other hand, is harder to measure making the scale suffer from accuracy issues.

Apparently, those issues have been overcome, though.

Why didn't the Celsius scale use a liquid the stabilizes at some point instead of one that is hard to measure.

Arbitrary decision, obviously. ;)

I've been spoiled by your Scotch neighbors, and seldom drink beer any more.

We also do fun things like calibrate Mars probes with some systems in Imperial, and others in Metric.

Apparently, they make better holes and larger dust clouds when we do that.

Not complaining: Besides - That's more beer for you, and more whisky for me ;)

Works out pretty well for all concerned, I should think. ^_^

Good point! Let me know when you drink some beer, and i'll balance it out

This same thread happens once every 3 months.

It's like all the losers on ATOT with USA-inferiority complexes are chasing the dragon...

just one more... you've almost got it.

Ehh, those of us in the states usually use Metric values for medicinal, scientific, or engineering purposes. Slowly, I think it will replace the deficient and inferior imperial system.

That said, I Jeremy Clarkson seems to like his Miles.... Last I heard England was using the deficient and inferior imperial system quite a bit too..... Though certainly to a lesser extent than us rebels in the states :)

Simply put, people with small wieners use the metric system. It makes them feel like they have a bigger dick than they do. 12.5 centermeters sounds bigger than 5 inches.

Top gear uses both Miles and Kilometers, kinda annoying at times but still my favorite show >.>

but yeah, Clarkson seems partial to Miles

Indeed! Drinks in Canada are sold in pints as well, so I tried looking up how much that was. US pint and British pint are not the same thing?? what a piece of shit system.

Metric would be a load of bullshit too if definitions changed from country to country. French kilogram vs Belgian kilogram. UK meter vs Finland meter.
