The "tap" on my wife's touchpad won't work.

Wow that's pricey for a keyboard but it's all supply and demand. I came close to that one time. I think it was $70 but it was a brand new model Sony so replacement parts weren't very available yet. That was a year and a half ago. She had it back in a few months ago to get some malware out of it and I was curious what they keyboards went for now and they were $20.

YES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I started tracking it after the repair, and, over time they came waaaay down! I hated it!

But, when I NEEDED IT, I NEEDED IT....again, had to get on a waiting list....and, despite the price, when I got email saying it is in.....I was soooooo happy!

Remember when my friend messed up my KB, the lappy was almost new.....so, I guess the parts were obscenely expensive, forget hard to come by. He offered to pay for the part, I agreed to let him pay half.

The more proprietary the part, the newer the machine.....the more obscene the price!!! U bet: SUPPLY AND DEMAND.

Edit: Nevah mind, it is a legit User's Guide in PDF.....but it isn't the Service Manual I am looking for. Still can't find one you don have to pay for. That is just WRONG ON EVERY LEVEL.

Edit: k....here's the actual Service manual via some vendor in the UK.....they charge close to 4 pounds. ......that's more in dollars.

Again, responsible Mfgs offer all documentation for every computer they make or ever have for free on their sites. This is absolutely the case with Dell. Before I bid on this new/used Optiplex 980 on eBay, I first downloaded all the documentation from Dell.

Another edit: Here's one for just under $8 via some ebay vendor in Michigan.
