The tablet gaming scene is extremely annoying

Most developers want you to pay for every little feature. Nothing more disappointing than downloading a game only to discover that after an hour or two in you need to pay for to access or unlock a certain part of the game.

I understand that developers are just trying to make a living like everyone else. I'd prefer to just pay for the game upfront than needing to buy endless amount of in-game credits or whatever other ongoing payment scheme they have to play a game.

That does bother me to an extent, but it helps keep the costs of games down I suppose. As long as the in game purchases aren't actually necessary to play the game at all I'm ok with it.

Microtransactions - the way of the future. I agree that they suck.

Free-to-play = pay-to-compete

Same story on a lot of the games for PC now, too. The consoles are safe from it, mostly, because the systems are rigidly controlled by the console manufacturers. Open market on mobile devices and PCs means you have access to a ton of games, many free, but you also have to deal with all the free-to-play games where developers want you to fork over cash to get additional features, maps, weapons, etc.

Best thing to do is to not get those games. Just pay for quality games that are complete or find truly free games.

It's pretty fucking terrible and I honestly don't get what people see in it. The only good games I've played are ports of board games for the most.

I like Virtua Tennis on my tablet. Good amount of fun for the $0.99 I paid for it. Only other stuff I have played for more than 30 seconds has been card games, but only free stuff. No real desire to do much more gaming on my tablet.

I stopped playing mobile games. Mainly because so many of them were processor specific ie. You could only play tegra games I'd you had a tegra proccesor, etc.

It may have been fixed now but I haven't looked around.

I pretty much stopped playing any games too. I think I've made a huge mistake introducing my daughter to a tablet and all the games you can dl & play. She keeps clicking the ads on the free games, or else wants to buy some item in other games. It's retarded.

Perhaps you shouldn't play mobile games or get a Vita/Gameboy. But seriously most those games are pretty damn cheap, a few bucks for entertainment shouldn't be a biggie, if it is, you failed somewhere.

I really enjoy some of the hidden puzzle ones on Ipad, their like $6 for full. If the demo was worth playing through, the rest is worth a lousy $6. I see ghetto kids spend more than that at the freaking BP station.

What are you talking about? Everything works if I use my iPad 1, 2, new, 3G, 3GS, 4, 4s,and I will guarantee 5. Even most iPod Touches work across the board too.

You must be doing something wrong.

Ya, either you need to buy everything, or you're only given so many "turns" and forced to wait until tomorrow to continue playing unless you pay for more turns. Or progression through the game is so slow it takes weeks of grinding just to get enough to upgrade items/equipment.

I don't like free-to-play either, if it forces you to pay to compete.
But I wouldn't pay upfront either, I'm a cheapass with a money-spending phobia.

I pretty much stick to classics, Solitaire, MahJongg, Tetris... Not the most exciting things in the world, but they're easy on the cpu, and keep my interest. They're also usually libre and gratis, without artificial restrictions.

Hint: Apple doesn't use Tegra

If it's $5 to download, you'll probably pass.
If it's free to download, you'll get it, get hooked, and then be more likely to pay the $5 in a rush to continue the game.

Not saying it's nice or a good thing to do, but that's likely the reasoning behind it.

Marketing: It's all about psychological manipulation of potential customers.

and if they get hooked, its likely worth the stupid $5. this is the equivalent of downloading a demo and trying out how you like it. They are not really manipulating customers so much as they are giving them a chance to try it out in hopes they like it enough to pay for the full version.

Ya there's no way to get a real judge on a game, especially through google play, since there's only ever a couple of screenshots, the developer's description, and user reviews which are filled with reviews like "0/10 I loved the game but level 15 doesn't work since the patch" or "0/10 My 3 year old phone can't run the game". People don't seem to realize that the review section is not for comments.

I've disabled in-app purchases with the Amazon Appstore. I don't even want the option.

Wish I could test-drive every game before buying.

In-App purchases. Ugh. :( Loathe them. I much prefer the outright purchase for a full game or ad supported. IAP gets heavily abused by certain developers *cough* Glu-Mobile.
