You know what pisses me off most? The Windows Store is so poorly organized. It's a piece of shit. They need to revamp the way things are laid out.

I agree with OP :)

My Surface RT replaced my MBA 13" for on the go computing earlier this year. Perfect device to take notes w/ in class. I'm seeing more and more Surfaces here on campus :) Soon as VLC RT gets released, I'll be unloading my MBA here pretty soon since its been collecting dust.

I have a surface and I use it all the time. It really is a solid device. The biggest issue is the price - $600 with the keyboard was outrageous. It should have been $299 and included a touch cover. The lack of apps doesn't bother me - I don't really use the ones that are there, other than Office. The browser is good enough. The only thing I use my MacBook air for anymore is programming, which I usually do on my desktop anyway.

Agreed, although I like Windows 8 for the most part. Also they are redesigning the store in 8.1 release.

From the changes I read, I think I will finally be able to pick up the next Surface RT as long as the price is reasonable.

whatever niceties the Surface may have, I cannot agree that it's underrated. For me personally, only use of it would be as a picture frame. A very expensive, nice looking, picture frame.

I would say criminally overpriced is more the correct thread title.

It may have come down in price, but the only people interested in this thing know that this price drop is just to clear inventory for something newer and better.

I used the RT for a few months before upgrading to the Pro. It was a great device for internet, notes and remote desktop to my home PC. A bit too expensive and not amazing but hardly the failure everyone assumes.

I really only upgraded so I could have something that could also play TF2 when I'm on the road.

How does the Pro handle TF2?

Really well, I play at 1080p with most everything set to high and it's smooth as butter. I never understood why MS hasn't done more to promote how well the Surface Pro does with gaming.

I've even used it for 4 player Rayman Origins output over HDMI to my friend's television with steam big picture mode and the xbox wireless receiver.

Well to be fair Source Engine games are not very intensive anymore, but that's cool to hear. The Haswell Pro should be much better at gaming from what I understand.

Yeah, the current version doesn't hold up with newer games. I'm tempted to upgrade to the new version when it's release.

MS marketing just confuses me. Break dancing ads and circling excel docs didn't sell the device at all. I've had people ask what those ads were selling while I was sitting there next to them with my Surface.

Haswell will put it out of it's misery.

Exactly.

Just like in 2011 when I knew what phone I would have today (1080p screen, quad core, etc.), I know what my next 10 inch tablet will be:

Transformer Prime form factor, x86 Windows based, retina display

That is the sweet spot for so many of us, it would take the jobs of notebook and tablet. Problem is that its looking like 2015 till we get those products cause Intel is late to the game.

Also don't forget how stale the ios "start" page is. I really enjoy W8 (Wp8) and the live tiles. I can quickly glance at info without having to open a notification center.

I'm reading through a surface pro review and stumbled upon this gem:

Last year Microsoft unexpectedly threw its hat into the ring with quite possibly the best branding decision since the Xbox. Under the Surface brand, Microsoft would produce two tablets of its own. These Surface devices would be built from the ground up to address this converged tablet/notebook space. The lesser of the two, Surface for Windows RT, would use ARM hardware and serve as a launch vehicle for Windows RT.

i lol'd, relentlessly.

MS doesn't understand their own customers. If I was MS I would at least kept the Win 7 UI even for tablets as a fallback to anchor people around the OS line that they have been familiar with for the past 10+ years. Regardless of it's technical merits, Win 8 now feels so alien that people won't even bother wasting their time learning, especially not when iOS/Android already had the first mover advantage.

Some newer games. Most games with proper DirectX 9 options are a safe bet. Final Fantasy 14 A Realm Reborn, ran at an acceptable level once set to a low normal 720p setting on full screen mode.

Don't count on heavy FPS games that are released within the past three-ish years. But all others are fair game. (puns intended)

Hello!

I need some help. I am not sure which tablet to buy, the Surface RT or the Asus VivoTab RT.

The prices here in Spain are at the moment:
Surface RT 32GB without the Touchcover 394 USD
Surface RT 64GB with the Touchcover 649 USD

Asus VivoTab RT 64GB without Docking 330 USD
Asus VivoTab RT 64GB with 3G/UMTS and Dockingstation for 500 USD

The Asus with 3G and docking looks quite competitive.

(To compare, the new Surface 2 (RT) without the TouchCover 2 will cost around 717 USD.)

Or should I rather wait for the new ASUS Transformer Book T100?

Any thoughts?
Thanks

Now that the Surface 2 will be out soon and there are still millions of unsold Surface RT tablets out there, the Black Friday firesale of these things is practically inevitable.

Who's going to have a Surface RT on sale for $200 first! Place your bets!
