The sun has let one fly again...

We are on for a mild solar radiation storm once again according to spaceweather.com.
Those that want to do experiments with cosmic rays... Maybe you get lucky.
Or perhaps try to receive some rf broadband noise from it...
Could be fun...

RADIATION STORM AND CME ALERT: A solar radiation storm is in progress around Earth. At the moment, the storm is classified as minor, which means it has little effect on Earth other than to disturb HF radio transmissions at high latitudes. Energetic protons, which make up the bulk of the storm, were accelerated in our direction earlier today by shock waves in a CME racing away from the sun at about 1000 km/s (2.2 million mph). According to analysts at the Goddard Space Weather Lab, the CME itself will reach Earth on Nov. 28th around 14:23 UT (+/- 7 hours). Click to view an animated forecast track:

He who smelt it, dealt it...

...wait, this is about solar storms. Anywho, I've always found this type of thing interesting. The images from the STEREO craft of these types of storms are simply awe-inspiring. Hopefully this CME will not pose any danger to satellites, astronauts, etc.

Damn. If only Bush had signed the Kyoto agreement 😛

Pretty cool nonetheless.

As I nominate blackaignsti as the total clueless fool of this thread. Maybe point granted, nothing on earth drives the solar agenda, but the solar agenda will totally drive the environment on earth.

As right now, the old 11 year solar sun spot cycle is ending, and what a very minimal cycle it has been. And now the new 11 cycle is beginning, and shows early potential of spawning at least a 50 year high in the frequency and severity of mass coronal ejection solar events, aka MCE or sunspots. So far we have not had a repeat of the 1859 Carrington event. that was able to totally disrupt all electronic means of communication even in the early telegraph age. But in terms of disrupting earth communications, sunspots are like guns, their effects go the way they are aimed. If they are not aimed at earth its no big problem. But the Carrington event was caused by one big MCE aimed at earth, swiftly followed by a second MCE aimed the same.

But that still misses the point, following every big solar solar cycle is a great increase in net solar output. If we think MMGW is at a crisis level now, its going to get a hell of a lot worse in the next few years. In short, blackaigst1 the fool, we are maybe going to really wish that Bush had signed the Kyota agreement. BUT ITS TOO LATE NOW.

JHC replace your batteries man. 🙄

I hope the cme will not negatively affect the mars science laboratory that has been launched at date 26 november 2011.

I have not fully read the article, but it seems the rover curiosity will have to land much like the lunar module (Apollo program : 1968-1972) did on the moon.
Vertical with rocket thrusters.

Anything they put into space has serious redundant shielding on anything that needs it. And even then, the designers take taking a bit event into account.
