don't buy it from the aforementioned website. ebay has them about 50% cheaper. great music. 🙂

Tool.

why would he be a certain body part?

- - yeah some of them are pretty good, some songs just shouldn't be redone by strings.

agreed. but overall, it's cool. the fun part is when it's done so well that you can start singing the lyrics along with the instruments.

Coldplay and linkin park should not have tributes.

actually, the coldplay and linkin park ones are their best ones. are you saying that because you dislike the music? it's pretty amazing what the string quartets can do to the music.

Apocalyptica does some amazing metal covers as well as some excellent material of their own. Most "String Tribute" or "Orchestral Tribute" albums tend to be rather inconsistent, implementing scores from several different arrangers. For example, on Led Zeppelin Symphonic Kashmir and When the Levee Breaks are excellent while the rest of the disc is somewhat lackluster. Same goes for the Tool and A Perfect Circle quartet tribute albums. The performers are usually top notch, but it's hard to evoke the moods of the original songs with a weak arrangement. I will also heartily agree with previous statements that some music just does not work in a quartet or orchestral setting.

EDIT: how the heck could I mispell the first word in my post 😕

i heard the weezer one sucked 😛

i'm listening to the REM one right now. it's pretty good. the DMB one was ok -- but after listening to it, i got the feeling that DMB is good as DMB and not as a string quartet.

can't wait to listen to my own copy of coldplay. 🙂 good stuff ahead.
