This thread reminds me of Texmaster.....R.I.P.

I think it's the theme that you make something mundane that doesn't go well into a political matter and then blame liberals.

Example-> If the guy at Burger King forgets the pickles on my Quarter Pounder. I would then have to assume that he is in fact a liberal and had shorted me the pickles because of a larger liberal Burger King conspiracy.

"Really, Give me an example."
Id say, 85% of games today require a MS OS.

should you blame MS or the game companies, noone else is providing an alternitive to direct X which makes it really easy for game developers to write games.

Standarization breeds compatability which is a very, very good thing !
True. To a degree. There are standards, that don't cost you an arm and a leg. Oh yea, they function better also.

It's already WAY beyond the point where that arguement is valid. That is a moot point.

There is no possibility of someone now surpassing microsoft in areas of that nature. Thoes areas being the desktop and home computing market.
I'm don't hate ms at all. But I sure don't love them.

How about their non-standard implementation of Kerberos?
Linky.

Oh yeah, you gotta love it when they tried to censor Slashdot with the DMCA. Good thing they failed

Ridiculous. MS did not hold a gun to consumer's heads and make them pick their product over others. Nor did MS hold a gun to game developer's heads and make them realize the obvious: If you want your game to sell, you make it work on the most popular OS.

The consumer created the standard by making it their OS of choice.
Marketing, marketing, marketing.
The population is no where near being an educated group of consumers.

i'll quote Russ:

"Really, Give me an example."
SMB (can't remember the new name they're giving it) -- proprietary, and deliberately changed to make reverse engineering difficult for Samba (this has happened multiple times and is well-documented)
Proprietary file formats in office software
Proprietary extensions to standards (Kerberos, web page rendering)
Proprietary file systems (NTFS)

I could go on and on. Maybe this isn't what you were getting at.. you weren't really denying that Microsoft isn't exactly a big supporter of open standards are you? Recent embracement of XML/Soap etc. does not make up for anything or prove their allegiance to open standards, either.

Very true !!! Bill did much to bring the world of computing to average people ! MS Word works the same at home or at Uncle George's house as it does a the the office and that big blue E means internet fun
everywhere. MS has it's problems but on the whole I think MS products just get better and better with each new release.

lol,can you tell where I'd like to work someday ? :)

Oh yes, people are too stupid to make decisions for themselves. Therefore, intellectual elitists such as yourself MUST be appointed to make those decisions for them.

Our Kerberos adds onto the standard we fully support interoping with and RFC 1510 compliant implemenation of kerb in fact we have succesfully interoped with MIT Kerb. Try again.

and if you have a problem with DCMA contact your congressman dont bitch at microsoft for trying to have the law enforced.

I completely agree. I had an Amiga. I loved it. It blew everthing else away. But it's gone now because Commodore had no clue how to market it. There have been/are alternatives to MS obviously. Is it MS fault that they don't know how to market their product? They had to resort to an anti-trust lawsuit to make up for their own lack of business accumen.

*yawn* Weak personal stab, much appreciated.

The average person does not have much choice.

Bullsh!t. Stop thinking you're so much better than everyone else, and that the average citizen NEEDS people like you to look out for them. The stab wasn't weak, it goes to the heart of modern liberalism in America today.

I don't know. I thought OS/2 was FAARRR superior to Windows 9x.

It should have been the next OS. IBM just doesn't know how to market. :(

So now it's Microsoft's fault that Intel doesn't supply Linux drivers for their POS DSL modem?

Tell your customer to ditch the 2100 & get a Cisco 675/678. Universal OS compatibility (as long as the OS supports TCP/IP) - Plus he'd be rid of that God awful 2100.

What the hell are you talking about?

I don't need to make decisions for anybody. I don't give a sh!t what you do! Use whatever software you want. Do whatever you will.
Just don't harm may family or I.

The larger a monopoly gets the less choices the consumer has.
Why do you attack the person who posts the message? How do you know what my feelings are through 5 lines of text?
