The state of affairs at the FS/FT Forum

It's fine to say an overpriced item is "cheap", "awesome", "great deal" when it obviously is not. But it's a no no to say an overpriced item is overpriced.

Problem is, the same ol' gang bump each other saying such things, racking up posts and status while some poor SOB hears nothing but praise about the product/price and buys something for way too much. This group bump and "sell" each others wares without any fear of "hey, you can get that NEW for half the price at newegg.com" or something to that effect.

As it is now, you can lie about how cheap it is, but can't tell the truth about how expensive it is.

Buyer beware at the FT/FS forum.

You know, I seldom post over here but this thread takes the cake. While you'll see the occasional item for sale that you could find cheaper elsewhere the vast majority of hardware on the trade board goes for *DIRT* money. I've seen good hardware going for as low as 40-50 cents on the dollar with the price including shipping and insurance.

All that said the rules of the board are clear, it is the perogative of the seller to set whatever price he/she deems fair on their items, it is the perogative of the buyer to research those items and if he/she finds he can get a better deal elsewhere he/she can then pm or email the seller with a counter offer. Posting things like "newegg has it $10 cheaper"
in a thread only leads to much bickering, eats bandwidth and totally ruins a seller's thread.

Imho, the current system works, if you want to make a lowball offer you can do so via pm or email, no need to clutter the board with thread crapping. As for the thread "bumps" I think the mods do a good job on keeping an eye out for excessive thread bumping and warning offenders.

When purchasing used goods, its the buyers responsibility to have some idea of the value/worth of the product. Anyone buying on anothers "good price" recommendation needs to learn how to make decisions on their own. This isnt Romper Room is it?

If you buy at a store for double the msrp, is it the stores fault? No it is the consumers responsibility to know the worth of each item the buy, and weigh the price vs advantages accoridingly. I have been on these boards for 7 months and I have only seen a couple of overpriced items, usually by new sellers to the fourm who have come from ebay looking to make a profit. I have yet to see one of these overpriced items sell at that kind of markup, therefore I belive that just because people are helping out their buds by bumping a thread, I don't believe it affects anyone. The only real thing I have a problem with is when a newbie comes to the forum and hid friend up the street who is an established trader here bumps his thread every 30 min to an hour, that is just ridiculous IMO

People might ask more than the product is worth but very seldom do they sell it at that price. When you go out and buy a car, especially a used car, I would hope that you research the market value for the car. Well the same thing applies at the For Sale Forum. Like Baffled2 and others in this thread I have been participating in these types of Trading Forums for longer than the For Sale Forum has been in existance here at Anandtech and I've seen what works and what doesn't. Other For Sale Forums have let their members make comments regarding the value of the items others were selling and in every single case they have disallowed that practice due to the bickering that resulted from the Thread Crapping the would occur. Trust me as I can tell you from my vast experiences dealing in these types of Forums, the last thing we need is some Self Serving Low Balling Thread Crappers posting their subjective opinion regarding the price of items for sale, many times without having any intention of buying the item in the first place.

I totally agree with this statement except for maybe the word subjective. Most crapping is subjective like "hey I know I can get it cheaper somewhere else." I've seen other cases where somebody would actually link to a lower price. It pretty easy to quote or link to a lower price found somewhere on the net which is pretty objective, which is still thread crapping and not tolorated and I agree with that rule 100%.

I have been trading, buying, and selling on FS/FT for over a year and a half and visit there at least once a day to "check things out". I can't believe some of the deals I have gotten there. I've sold over 30 items and maybe have been haggled (via PM's) twice, so most everybody who buys knows how to shop and knows a good price when the see one. If you pay to much for an item, your not a very good shopper. Very rarely do I see overpriced items. Maybe close to brand new prices but hardly overpriced.

If you don't like what's going there, take it eBay. See how much you pay for truley "overpriced" items.

to them your getting it for a great price...it is what you make of it, dont like the price, dont buy it, dont like people who use those words in their title dont click the link. I wouldnt gripe about it tho, its yet another way to get you to click and check out their stuff, if you like it you buy it.
