"The Stand" here we go again. Feature fim announced.

I'm really hoping they do a good job of this.

Dark Tower is probably my favorite series of novels and I am somewhat hopeful that the TV series and movies they make don't suck.

I feel like this would be a very difficult movie to do well. There's just so much strangeness to it.

I agree. Unless they break it up into two or three movies, it's not possible to cover this book well. I'm a big fan of the book so the watered down TV version was very disappointing.

I love the Stand.

Favorite King Movies
1. The Langoliers (really a miniseries)
2. Cujo
3. Christine
4. Misery
5. The Stand (really a miniseries)

Its the concatenation of a full length novel into a 2 hour feature film that will kill this. THe Stand was already done in an accelerated manner in the 8 hour miniseries. reducing that to 25% of its length will destroy it completely. I already rated the miniseries a 6/10 at best.

This is precisely why Battlefield Earth failed as a movie. (Well Travolta didn't help) They only did the first half and as a movie it should have easily been 20+ hours.

Without giving away too much, I feel like the real reason this won't fit into 2 hours is because the book takes such a twist in direction in the middle with the good/evil stuff. You simply can't fit the halves into an hour each. Most movie viewers would have a huge WTF when it changes angles, even I was thinking that during the book, and it makes a "short" movie seem theme-less.

The fact that Battlefield Earth is a completely fucking idiotic story didn't help (yes, the book is awful).

NO way this is going to be any good. hell they cut so much out of the mini-series. What are they going to cut out to make it a 2-3 hour movie?

One long-standing truth next to death and Taxes is that that if King as any involvement in any movie based off of one of his stories, it will suck balls.

Kubrick's Shining, which pissed SK off so much is the best thing to ever come from the guy's mind. The TV miniseries was god-awful...

Not sure about Shawshank, though. Was he any kind of producer for that?

M-O-O-N, that spells $$$?

Gotta bring back Sinise, Lowe, and Ringwald too.. they need the work!

Sinise is probably doing a lot of stage work; either in NY or maybe Chicago or who knows. He's a classic stage actor, and those guys tend to work constantly. That's usually what happens when you don't see someone in film for so long, they're actually really busy with various playsf lined up.

The report I saw yesterday seemed to indicate that The Stand would be a trilogy just like the Dark Tower. The WB exec repeatedly referred to it as a "modern day Lord of the Rings" style epic that deserved an episodic treatment to tell properly.

Actually, the Dark Tower is supposed to be a Trilogy with two tv seasons to supplement it. I think the season are supposed to air between the release or 1-2 and between 2-3. Unfortunately Ron Howard is going to do it. He used to be great but has been nothing but crap lately. Not to mention the last two novels he turned in to motion pictures have been horrible. Well....the books were pretty bad to begin with, but still.

I'm currently in the middle of "Under the Dome" and am really liking it so far. It would make a great movie as well. Hopefully the second half doesn't suck.

Gary Sinise has the lead on CSI: NY. Not great TV, but I'm sure he pulls a decent paycheck.

FWIW:
Rob Lowe works steadily on TV, moving from series to series; he never seems to hold a role for very long, but as soon as he quits one show someone else hires him.
I had to google Molly Ringworm to discover she has a role on an ABC Family series, the Secret Life of the American Teenager.
