Rugby...

Just look at scrums & passing 😉

I would have to say volleyball too. It requires a LOT of individual skill and team skill.

impossible to pick any one sport i guess...

I was about to say the same. Any team sport requires players to have a sense of skill and teamwork. Individual skill can help the team, but it cant win the game alone. There are sports, such as volleyball, where they are very equal, and as personal skill increases, teamwork increases too. Everyone has their favorite sport and has his/her own opinion, so it's really difficult to pick any one sport.

I don't think ATOT is every going to be the place where we hash out a clear and final fact on a given subject. It's just fun to hear differing opinions. Personally, NASCAR never even crossed my mind as being a team anything until it was mentioned.

Yeah, I say volleyball. In a lot of sports you can hide a bad player or two or work around them. In volleyball, if you are playing a good team that one bad player on your team can easily be the difference between winning and losing.

you don't need an exceptionally good individual to win at volleyball, high team skill is enough.

You do need an exceptionally good individual(s) if you are playing very strong competition. However, I think it's more important that you don't have a bad player. My point was more along the lines that one person can easily cost you the match, moreso in my opinion than any other sport.

Cycling presents an excellent balance of individual and team strengths: it is difficult to win consistenly when either there isn't a strong individual as well as when as strong cyclist lacks a strong team.

ah, ok, I didn't think about it in terms of lack of skill. I still don't see much difference between volleyball and a few dozen other sports where one bad individual would have exactly the same or worse effect that it has in volleyball.

You put one really bad player on a baseball team, on defense, and you have no chance of winning. That isn't even close to true in volleyball, if the rest of the team is decent.

There are many players in basketball, baseball, and hockey who don't have good defense but who have good offense. But our definitions might be differing. When I think "not good" I think, not as good as other pros but still decent. If you had someone who was truly bad, like a guy who only played little league, I am guessing any sport is going to suffer as a result of that guy.

i still say basketball. u claim that it isn't because a single player can score 80-100 points. but i ask u this, is it common? how many times does it happen? when it happens, it's only when a good player ( Kobe or Jordan in the past) would face an inferior team that does not know how too defend. For most players, 20 ppg is considered very good. 30 is amazing. 80? that's a fluke. it happens rarely and when it does, no enjoys the game cause it wasn't a team effort. the Detroit Pistons hardly ever score a ton of points, but they rock as a team cause they know how to work together, defend and score. I still think basketball is one of the sports that requires the most balance between team and individual skill.
