Kind of surprised that there's no Spelunky thread in here. It's honestly the best game ever created. I fought admitting this for the longest time, but it's basically perfect in every way. And now with the latest patch, that adds the "Pro HUD" it's even more perfect. Perfecter.

Does anyone run the dalies? I recently took videos of my last 30 recorded runs and chopped them down to just me dying. It may be my finest work.

I'm terrible at the game. I've never beaten even the "easy" way to beat it. Just die, and die and die.

I'm ok at the game. I play it a lot on my Vita. I do like it a lot though.

i got like 30hs into it on steam... i was able to get to the temple sections a couple times but i was never able to beat it

i was doing pretty good, until i saw some runs of "pros" and i saw that i was sooooooo far away from being able to move and do what they did... it turned me down :p

like killing the shopkeepers in everylevel, letting the ghost come to you and avoid it to get more money (the player leaves every green/blue/red gems on the floor. then when the ghost comes the player lures it into passing by the gems, converting them into diamonds that are worth more money)

It's pretty tough and I don't like it enough to get better. I regret spending the money on it even though I got it for pretty cheap on the Vita. With all the praise I expected much more.

I guess I just don't get it

What's the easy way to beat the game? took me 65 hours of gameplay to finally beat it without using shortcuts. Really good game.

I just mean by beating Olmec instead of going to Hell or one of the other methods.

God I love this game. Im currently trying to stop playing it, since starting it two months ago - it has been all I play every chance I get.

Im currently at 31 hours and I was just finally able to beat the same (with shortcuts). Perfect in just about every way is the only way I can describe it. Brings back that feeling from when you were a kid whenever you get an achievement in the game. (which might be my only complaint - I wish there were more steam achievements - since there were so many things that were so hard to do that you don't get anything for)

I went from not being able to get out of the caves, to a much more consistent player. Im pretty close to being able to beat the game without shortcuts - which is saying a lot since I was once terrible at this game. So far, the hardest thing Ive had to do was bring that god damn key from the mines all the way to the temple to get the shortcut there. After that, beating the game isnt nearly as hard as that. I was so proud of myself after beating it, I actually sent my gf a pic of the end of the game :\

Oh yea thats another thing I should mention - even she loves playing it. This game even does co-op right.

I cant say enough about how great this game is - and this game has also made me realize how much I love roguelikes. Personally I have been waiting for rogue legacy to go on sale to see how it compares to spelunky.

Rogue Legacy is a pretty great game but feels so much different than Spelunky. I think the sticking progression is really what sets it apart. You can always change gear to change your experience. Spelunky is about perfecting already sound and tight mechanics.

I probably didn't explain that well.

sounds pretty spot on from what Ive heard on podcasts. This is probably why spelunky will still be number 1 in my book. I honestly could feel myself getting better every time I played - and it was especially noticeable when going back a stage after spending a lot of time in the next stage.

Binding of Isaac has probably been the closest game to spelunky that Ive played so far (loved that too). Super Meat boy was another game that I hated at first, but grew on me when I realized how much skill it took to be good at that game.

Anyone know if this developer has any plans for a Spelunky 2, or DLC, or any new games coming out? I know this was the first game they ever made - which is pretty nuts. Hope to see more from them.

Me too. I think it has a lot to do with how easy and fast it is to launch the game and start playing.

there are many secret levels if you didnt guys didnt know about them, but you can still die in those levels

1) open the chest in the mines with the key. you get that blue eye icon on the top right section of the screen. Then in one of the jungle levels you will hear a sound and the eye icon will flicker, that means you are close to the black market entrance/secret level, the door will be inside some rocks so you need to move until the sound and flickering gets crazy and bomb that area. In the black market you can buy (or steal) for 50k the AHRK that is needed to go to hell

2) in the jungle sections, sometimes you see those pink bubbles in which enemies or the player get stuck for a couple seconds. If you throw yourself in there with a damsel and wait a couplek seconds, a big worm will show up and eat you and you get to the worm secret level

3) in the jungle section, sometimes you will have a level in which there are crypts of and stuff like that. there are 2 secrets here. First, bomb the ground below a gravetomb that says DASH. You'll find a shotgun there, and the 2nd secret, there is a tomb that has a skeleton with a golden crown, bomb below the crown, there is a door to another secret level

4) in the ice caves part, at some point you will see a big statue of a face with the ahrk simbol on its forehead. If you had the ahrk, let yourself die close to it, you will die and respawn inside the statue, pick the item that is there (jumping)
(this item is needed for the hell level)

5) in the temple part you need to get the item from the anubis boss (the one that flies) and you need to get a book or something lke that... im actually not so sure about this part since i never got the chance to get them lol
