The sooner that pop culture can get out of this format, the better I'll feel

When the first few seconds of a video clip summarise the rest, including spoilers, then I have to watch the rest without any anticipation of what's to come.

My wife just sent me a video clip to watch which literally went like this:
"We found a spoon in this dog"
"You're never going to guess what happened to this dog"

- edit - the video in question, in case anyone is interested:

Strange, I'm used to seeing rhe complete opposite : click bait titles and intro and you watch the video and they never answer it and instead force you to watch another to get the answer. Just another way to show more interaction / views.

And that first video is just a clumsy attempt to advertise a product or talks about how awesome their life is because they did a thing

Yeah, that's really common in YouTube compilation videos, the thumbnail shows something of interest that never happens in the video.

I suspect the text bolded above is more the issue than anything to do with "pop culture".... totally lame and stupid videos have been around since WAY before Youtube or TikTok existed!

Tell me... what exactly were you expecting from a video with that title? ;)

I'd rather culture get past the whole video thing entirely.

Why don't you just disconnect your power/internet and go live in a cave instead of POSTING on the internet about how much you "hate technology" while using your PC to do it?

Spend your time sitting around reading a book by candle-light. You'll show us!

It's a TV show that's been on for over 10 years, aimed at children. It's on CBS Saturday mornings in the US.

Not sure what the issue is, they show a small clip to get you interested, then go to a commercial break. I think they have been doing this with TV shows since at least the 1960's. Nothing new to pop culture here.

A lot of tv shows do that. I tend not remember which though which is real PITA when you're trying to decide whether or not to super FF after the intro or just normal FF

I trend I find really annoying is when not only does it do that, but the video does not even show any of it and cuts off before. That seems to be a trend with short videos, they literally, cut them short when it really should have been a normal video. I wonder if lot of those are just AI generated, they just cut a random clip from a random video and auto generate a title/narration. The narration of those often is actually computer voice and not even a real voice.

Feels like I'm probably doing something right, since I don't believe I've experienced this particular format.

If something is "free" then you are the product.

This can't be repeated often enough

100% true HOWEVER there are cases where the "trade-off" benefits both parties not just the information "collector".

For example giving up "private" information that can be found easily through other means anyway in exchange for a service or entertainment is something I don't worry about much at all anymore.

And that's why you don't watch social media shit. Its just garbage. Its like 1/3 hot girls doing dumb dances or "workout" in the skimpiest clothing allowed by the platform, 1/3 is just people saying stupid shit with no real reason (i.e. "responding to the haters" where the hating is either so damn stupid that you'd have to be pathetic to respond to it, or is frankly just made up like women claiming "everyone told me I couldn't wear a bikini in my 50s" or other stupid shit when its a celebrity that probably spent years and hundreds of thousands of dollars to look as good as possible just for some needless sad vanity validation - whilst they pretend they're doing something about women being shamed based on looks but are in fact just perpetuating the issue), or the weird pointlessly elaborately convoluted making shit where it often is not an impressive end result but boy did they do a lot of work to get there.

I don't use the app versions of most things (Instagram for instance) because I can easily skip all the forced shit in the web version but not the app version. I loaded the app version though and kinda just scrolled down. I can see why people end up in endless doom scrolling, as its oddly almost mesmerizing, but the content is really just shit.

- edit - the video in question, in case anyone is interested:
I fast-scanned all posts in this thread and then conceded to consult the video. Yes, tooooo much in between, and a drag.

First off I was put off because it was a dog story. I had a dog as a young teenager, it had a tragic death at age 2 and grieved and have never had another dog. Americans are so damn dog crazy. Have a video or TV story about a dog and their ears prick up. I generally FF through dog stories, no "aww..." for me.

Now, I FF to near the end here and garnered the punch line, someone shoved a magnet into the dog and it pulled out the spoon. I have done stuff like this tons of times, but not with a dog/animal, obviously.

Dumb shit, the video. Those weren't Americans, I'm guessing Australian?

I watch a lot (too much I'm thinking) TV news. I'm hip to tricks they use and I detest so much of it. I ALWAYS time shift, so I have my remote buttons, which helps, and there's always the power off button (which in my case erases the whole buffer, there's no going back).

Check it: The title was "How did a spoon end up in a dog's tummy?"

He ate it, you idiot! From the get-go, it should have been obvious that it was crap.
