here is what worked for me: i would always fall asleep really easily sitting at my desk in the library when i had work to do or an exam to study for when i was a student. so to fall asleep i just imagine i have something like that to do and i dose off in no time

3mg is a pretty large dose. Probably unnecessarily large?

One thing that's weird about melatonin is that taking large dosages actually ruins my sleep quality. If I take 12mg (4 of those pills), I'll actually wake up before my alarm goes off. I'm not rested and I'm still tired, but I'll wake up.

I'm also pretty sure taking too much causes eye pain and headaches for me. Too much = bad, as usual.

That stuff does fuck-all for me. I might as well buy sugar pills.

I've never seen a smaller dosage. I have seen 9 mg tablets and the 3 mg tablets that I have right now gives a dosage of 3-9 mg.

Take the whole bottle.

I wonder if the bottle has a warning on it.
warning: this bottle contains enough medication to make you really sleepy! take only if you want sleepy. do not attempt sex after taking this medication. this medication does not make anal sex easier.

The one that I have that is the exact same version actually has like the maximum amount of B6 or something in it. You could probably get some kind of vitamin poisoning from it I guess?

melatonin is a hormone produced @ night (in the absence of light) that makes you sleepy.

I take it because I work the graveyard shift and I think there is too much light around the bedroom for me to produce melatonin

I prefer valerian root. and you can't get vitamin poisoning from b6.
http://www.nutritional-supplements-guide.com/vitamin-b6-overdose.html

People taking large dosages of vitamin B6 (pyridoxine) on a regular basis for an extended period of time should be aware that problems can arise. There is a potential for damage to your nerves, but in most cases it is reversible.

Symptoms that you will notice first with a vitamin B6 overdose are numbness and tingling in the hands and feet.

You may also notice a loss of manual dexterity and your balance may be a bit wobbly.

People have been known to form kidney stones when they have taken excess vitamin B6 for extended periods of time as well.

Taking a multi-vitamin with the correct dosages of each particular vitamin is one way to avoid an overdose and ensure that your body is getting all of the nutrients it needs...which is not always possible through diet alone.

Vitamins are certainly one area where you don't want to mess around. Contrary to popular belief, vitamins actually do things. Just like drugs, you can overdose on them. Water soluble vitamins like vitamin C will simply cause diarrhea and it's not a big deal. Fat soluble vitamins, mostly B vitamins, cannot be shitted out. If you overdose on them, you're in big trouble. Be as careful with vitamins as you would with any drug like Tylenol or Aspirin (yes both of those are potentially poisonous as well).

The SO takes 1mg tablets.

The recommended dosage is far below 9mg, iirc. The body creates less then 1mg of melatonin, I believe, so you are supposed to start out below or at that point, and only up the dosage if you do not experience any effectiveness.

Melatonin doesn't work for me either, but I have heard many accounts that most standard dosages are above dosage.

Benadryl works well for me, but a bit too well. I end up getting a hangover in the morning as it lasts for about 12hrs.

A light snack before bed often helps me chill out though.

I've been using the stuff for maybe 4 years now and have never seen it in dosages that small.

I expected it to be a big fat placebo, but melatonin worked too well for me. I was going through a sleepless phase and didn't want the hangover that taking benadryl would give me. Well, this shit basically was such that I really needed to be in the vicinity of where I wanted to sleep before taking it. Some people say it does nothing, probably has to do with body chemistry like everything else, but for me it's too. strong. I had trouble getting up the next day - and that never faded, tried it for a week.

I got back on a regular sleep schedule, though, so I stopped taking it.

I take 5 megs per night along with 2 Tylenol PM and my happy pills. I need to knock myself out in order to fall asleep.

Rx drugs don't work at all.
